I'm trying to figure out a workflow for a client. Essentially they have salespeople create a deal and then they are supposed to create a corresponding custom object. That second part doesn't always happen as you might've guessed. So they want to find deals without that custom object association (the hard part) and then create on using the deal info (got that part down)
Any suggestions?

Could you use a workflow step that asks if the deal has greater than 1 custom object associated, if yes do nothing, if no, task the person to create the association or do a follow up step.
This should help you flag these using a custom property or by tasks etc.
