Dear Hubspot Community, 

 

does someone know if it is possible that customers or contacts in the database can change their contact details themselves? 

In only know the "e-mail preferences" site and how to customize this one. But is it possible that contacts can change their e.g. telephone number?

Any other idea how to solve that?

In answer to your query, a contact would need to resubmit a form using the same email address in order to update/replace previously populated fields. If they change their email address and submit a form on the second email, HubSpot will recognise this person as a new contact

In answer to your query, a contact would need to resubmit a form using the same email address in order to update/replace previously populated fields. If they change their email address and submit a form on the second email, HubSpot will recognise this person as a new contact

Hi @roisinkirby this is quite an old post, but im looking into this issue today.

 

I also think it would benefit our contacts if they could edit their info more easily. A little like the subscription page, but with a different purpose (for editing and updating).

 

I believe this is a standard template Hubspot should provide. Sometimes to get to access to a resource; some users put down anything, except for their real info. Thats fine - not everyone wants to put down their real info. However as nurturing occurs, we have had instances of users changing their details all the time.

 

Your answer works partially.... But we have many forms with many questions. Also most Hubspot forms have progressive profiling enabled, so they are hidden and cannot be edited. Our sales team would appreciate more accurate data, if we could only give the users chance to correct it.

 

So i feel it would be better to have a single page with all the data on show - so users can add / or even remove some of their answers.

 

We also need to make it easier for contacts to see all the info that is on file, purely for data protection reasons. Unsubscribing is one thing, but we also need to take account of the new 'right to be forgotten'. I believe GDPR says you cant charge admin time for this anymore (not that we do - but some do). So a more automated / streamlined system is needed. There maybe reasons why this connot be implemented, but could you put it forward as a suggestion to the dev team?

Hi Róisín,

If they change their email address and submit a form on the second email, HubSpot will recognise this person as a new contact.'..... is only true if cookie tracking on the form is disabled (Forms -> choose form -> Options -> Disable cookie tracking -> YES) -> When disabled, every submission from the same browser creates a new contact.

 

If this setting on Disable cookie tracking is NO, changing an email address doesn't create a new contact but only updates the existing contact. This setting usually works fine, unless the same person (or another person on the same computer) is also using the form for someone else (for example to submit several people for a webinar using the same form). If that happens the existing profile will be updated everytime the form changes and be screwed up.

hi there,

so in regards to answering lhaith above, essentially what you're saying is that no, there is no easy and simple way for our users to update their email, like when you receive an email, click on 'update preferances' on your email , to then take you to a page where you're able to see your details and then change whatever you need to change. so this is not possible with Hubspot?
