Create company property from active list

SOLVE

I have an active list of current partners where company type = partner and I need to create a pick list property that reflects these values. Specifically, I want a way to have the picklist options be the names of the companies from this list and have them automatically update when the list is added to. What is the best way to approach this?

Hi @monetm,

This is unfortunately not possible. There isn't any property type in HubSpot which would support this out of the box – to accomplish this and have an automatic solution, one would have to create a custom application based on the CRM API. Alternatively, this would have to be maintained manually.

Typically, when this question comes up in the community, the use case also allows for using association labels: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/object-settings/create-and-use-association-labels

Instead of choosing a partner from a dropdown, you would simply associate the two records and apply the label 'Partner'.

Association labels have gotten more and more love from HubSpot. While the reflex is to look for an automatically maintained dropdown and while association labels don't sound as sexy, they offer a lot of functionality in lists, reports, workflows that you wouldn't get from a custom property at this point.

Best regards!
