Re: SMS Opt-In in Forms

Is there a way for customers to opt-in to SMS via a form? When I try to push them through a workflow after filling out the phone number field asking them to opt in to SMS by using one of the keywords,  it just says it cannot send the message because the contact has not opted in to SMS.

How can I get them opted in to SMS via a form? I don't want my contacts to just text the number we were assigned, how would it be logged in Hubspot for me to send to them later if so? What am I missing?

Hi @SPoulsen,

As far as I know, this is currently not possible via form or workflow. You would have to update individual contacts or multiple, but always manually: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/sms/collect-and-manage-consent-to-send-sms-messages#edit-and-manage-op...

Just adding since I had the same question recently -- looks like the feature has been updated. Via customer support:

"it is indeed possible to opt contacts into SMS messaging via workflow. The "Manage communication subscriptions" workflow action now includes an initial dropdown which has the user select the communication channel for which they're managing subscriptions, and SMS is one of the available options; selecting for an enrolled contact to be opted in to SMS messaging in this way is effectively no different than the contact opting themselves in directly via SMS."

I was confused on if we could or could not opt-in SMS via a workflow but I just confirmed on a client account with SMS that you can indeed manage this subscription status via a workflow. Confirmed on 11/11/24 with screenshot below.

Would it not be possible to create a new subscription type for SMS? I'm currently looking into this now as well and have created a form for visitors to enter their mobile number and name then check the box to subscribe to SMS.
