Popup CTA on Mobile as Exit Intent??

SOLVE

Does anyone know if there is actually a way to trigger the popup CTAs on mobile as an exit intent. For example, if someone clicks the back button? As this is available on many 3rd party apps.

Here is the info I got from support which is contradictory and unhelpful.

"Thanks for reaching out to HubSpot support My name is Cristian, and I'm happy to help :), As described here, the Trigger on exit intent option works by triggering the CTA when the visitor moves their cursor to the top bar of the browser window. As mobile visitors don't have a cursor, this is currently not possible for mobile and is specific to browser visitors."

My response: "So, then why does it give us the option to disable or enable it on small screen sizes?"

Support: "

Hi vincent,

Sorry for the delayed answer, what happens is that the option is to enable them to be shown as it is mentioned here, but it has to be done also through a responsive design, if there are no responsive designed features in the website the CTA will not show, responsive design features are out of my scope of support since I'm not a trained web developer. I'll suggest getting in contact with your design team, or contacting one of our partners if you need to here."

Has anyone gotten this to work? Any insight? Currently, our exit intent popups do not work on mobile at all with "on exit" selected.

Popup CTA on Mobile as Exit Intent??

SOLVE

Hey @VLavinBitetti that's interesting, could you share a mobile site you've seen trigger a pop-up when the browsers back button is clicked? I wouldn't have thought that message is sent to the site.

To be completely honest that sounds like a horrific user experience.

The support rep in this case is right, exit intent in HubSpot pop-ups is defined as the cursor leaving the page. The "hide on small screen sizes" feature is just a generic feature in HubSpot pop-ups, basically they just haven't set the logic in the UI to hide that option when you set it to only trigger on exit intent.

You can open a feature request through the ideas forum here to raise this idea with the HubSpot product team to see if this is something they would consider for a future release!

Popup CTA on Mobile as Exit Intent??

SOLVE

I agree @TomM2,  I've run into the pop-ups on exit intent quite a bit on mobile and it drives me absolutely mad.

I can see for "impusle buyers" if it were a promo code or discount offer on exit intent it might convince them to purchase, so I don't disagree that the conversion rate is high @VLavinBitetti.

As Tom mentioned, I would add your idea here so it reaches the product team for consideration.

If you share the link back here, I'm happy to upvote to bring more flexibility to the native features.

Popup CTA on Mobile as Exit Intent??

SOLVE

Pretty much every third party exit intent app has this feature.

The typical for mobile is either - on back button press or when a new browser tab is opened, or on scroll UP. While you may think it's a "horrible user experience", these are currently the only true mobile exit intents, and they convert well.

Thanks for sharing! I haven't experienced that before personally. I'd definitely recomend raising this as a feature request then!

Popup CTA on Mobile as Exit Intent??

SOLVE

Hey @VLavinBitetti, thank you for posting in our Community!

One approach could involve using different triggering mechanisms specifically tailored for mobile devices, such as time-based triggers or scroll-based triggers. However, I understand that this may not fully replicate the functionality of traditional exit-intent popups.

I want to invite our top experts @TomM2, @Jnix284 do you have any recommendations for @VLavinBitetti?

Thank you,

Pam
