Creating lead properties from my Hubspot form

We have a Hubspot form that we are using create leads. However, it's very frustrating that we don't seem to be able to set lead properties from the form, only contact or company properties. We need the form to create the contact and open a lead. 

It seems strange that Hubspot created the lead object but doesn't allow a form (where we get more of our leads) to be able to set those properties. One suggestion I saw was to create a workflow to copy the contact properties onto the lead and then delete the contact property but wondering if there's a more straightforward approach.

At the moment, the Lead object isn’t supported in forms, so you won’t see Lead properties available under Existing Properties. HubSpot has an open Idea requesting this functionality, which also suggests creating new  properties directly in the form as a workaround:

You may want to upvote it so the HubSpot product team can prioritize a native solution.

In the meantime, a practical workaround is to capture the data in Contact properties and then use a workflow to create or update the Lead object, sync the property values, and automatically associate the Lead with the Contact.
