CTAs w/Custom Filters not working on external website

SOLVE

I am trying to create some CTAs to enrich lead data.
We have lists of leads where we want to gather missing data.

I have created a CTA with a form to collect that info that has the following targeting:

Show in websites

Show CTA
WHEN Website URL contains some URL

Show to these visitors

Filtered visitors
WHEN Segmented lists = some list

Testing these on both hubSpot Blog and Landing pages works exactly as one would expect allowing the CTA to be displayed as the targeting is set up.

However, when trying to implement this on our (external) website it fails to display the CTA.

I have tested simple targeting (WHEN Website URL contains some URL) on our (external) website and the CTAs display fine.

I have two questions.

  1. Is this type of targeting (show your CTA to, based on custom filters) designed to work on external websites, or only on HubSpot pages?
  2. If this is designed to work on external websites, what is a good method to troubleshoot why this is failing?

Thanks in advance

Hey @ClementY does the CTA still not display when you have the "url contains" filter?

For lists it might be expected, it's designed to work on all pages with your HubSpot tracking code. For segmented lists HubSpot obviously needs to know who it is behind the browser. The only way this can happen is through a tracking cookie. A tracking cookie only really becomes associated with a contact when they submit a form.

So there's a few things you need to ensure this works on your site and you can target people:

1. The HS tracking code is correctly placed on your site.

2. There are HubSpot, or HubSpot integrated forms on your site.

3. The contacts you're testing have already submit a form on this site.

Cookies are also domain specific, so for example if you have "website.com" as your main site, but the contact has submit on "landingpages.website.com" the cookie won't automatically transfer between the two. If there's no cookie, there's no way for HubSpot to know who the visitor is, and thus can't target them through lists.

Hi @ClementY, I hope that you are doing well!

Thanks for asking the HubSpot Community!

I'd like to share these resources that might be of interest to you:

- Add calls-to-action (CTAs) to your content
- Embed CTAs (legacy) on your external site

Also, here are some similar threads that might help you:

- The solution from @TomM2 on this post "CTA's not showing"
- The solution from @acody and myself on this post "CTA Banner Not Showing"

Let us know if that helps @ClementY!

Have a fantastic day! 🌞
