Which attribution model works best for your business?

One of the most common questions marketers ask when getting started on attribution reporting is which model they should use?

The answer depends on the goals of your team and the supporting analysis that’s expected of you. The important thing to remember is that there isn’t a one size fits all for attribution reporting: when in doubt use multiple models.

With this in mind:

  • Which attribution model have you been using or experimenting with to measure the success at your business?
  • If you haven't quite started with attribution, what are you trying to measure or track using attribution reports?

Currently my company uses first touch attribution model, however, I personally feel the multitouch would the best option as the sales cycle is long and we have multiple touch points before the lead becomes an opportunity or customer

Which attribution model works best for your business?

The best attribution model for a business depends on several factors such as the industry, target audience, customer journey, and marketing goals. Some popular attribution models include Last Click, First Click, Linear, Time Decay, and U-shaped. It is recommended to test different attribution models and analyze the results to determine the most appropriate model for your business. Additionally, it's important to regularly review and adjust your attribution model to ensure it aligns with your evolving business goals and customer behavior.

Right now the startup I work for is developing its first product. So the marketing stage has not arrived yet. But in my opinion multi-touch. full path model look good

For our new company, I'd say a full-path, multi-touch attribution report, to understand what of our initial efforts are generating the most significant engagement/results, to use as a basis for future efforts.

I work in retail and the time decay model seems to work best.  Many of our products such as groceries go bad after a while.  Also seasonal items are put on clearance after a holiday such as Halloween or Christmas is over. Sales or promotions depend on the time of year, type of merchandise, supply, or demand.

My tech company is newly entering a new market. And we want to know whether our content or marketing strategy works well in the new market. So we use the first-touch model.

We have a longer buying process so we are going to test linear attribution first to test out the lead journey.

I didn't really understand the different attribution models until now, but first touch, linear and full path are first on my list to implement in my reporting on specific channels and efforts.

I haven't used attribution reporting before, but this is a great way to know which marketing strategies generate new leads for the company. As an e-commerce owner, I would be interested in the last touch attribution report to learn what triggered the customer to finalize the purchase. The Full Path attribution seems to be a great way to have more insight into the most important interactions and dont leave smaller ones to the side as they also have their roles in your customer purchase process.

I haven't used attribution reports yet. But I look forward to getting started so I can identify which marketing strategy works best for a specific type of person. It would be great to see a specific person journey to reach our goal point. Warm regards, and I appreciate all the help HubSpot's Academy is giving me.

We actually have not been up to this point which is why hubspot is our new favorite thing so learning all of this we have yet to jump right in. If I had to give what we've been doing a name I'd say the attribute we cared about was leads generated or phone calls made inbound. Those were our metrics now that we're educating oiurselves we work harder find the right model.

I haven't started with attribution but as a digital marketing agency, I would expect that linear would be the expected model to use since each client is different and we need to understand and optimize for their specific wants/needs. They are involved in each step and the process would take the direction that they feel most comfortable with.

In our business, we've mainly relied on some basic first touch attribution in our AB testing. However, we will start getting into linear attribution because we have a ton of content that we need to understand the success of. Eventually, we'd like to get into more full-path attribution, as justifying the ROI of our marketing activities is always of interest to us and the rest of the company.
