There are several reasons marketers will distribute their content. Some hope their content will drive traffic to their website, while others hope it’ll help generate new leads.

Setting a content distribution goal is the foundation to building a strategy that drives results. This is accomplished by understanding the purpose behind your distribution efforts, and making your goal SMART.

What is an example of a content distribution goal you would like to set?

Remember, a SMART goal is specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. To learn more about this, check out the Developing a Content Distribution Strategy lesson via HubSpot Academy.

"To increase brand visibility and engagement by expanding our content reach to new audiences through strategic partnerships and diversified distribution channels, resulting in a 30% increase in website traffic and a 20% growth in social media followers within the next six months."

This goal is specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART). It outlines the objective of expanding brand visibility and engagement, specifies the metrics by which success will be measured (website traffic and social media followers), and sets a timeframe for achieving the desired results. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of strategic partnerships and diversified distribution channels, indicating a comprehensive approach to content distribution.

You want to first research your target audience, this will help you with what you create and where you will distribute it. For example, you are running the Instagram account for your company and you want the account to gain more followers. You want to look at your target audience at try to promote the page in a way that is appealing to them. You want to set goals, for example for the first month you want to gain atleast 1,000 more followers. The more followers you gain, it will help increase your popularity and it will put your name out there. Each month or quater you can set certain goals to gain more followers.

Here's an example of an effective content distribution goal:

Effective Content Distribution Goal:

Goal: Increase brand visibility and engagement on Instagram by 25% over the next quarter.

Objective: Achieve this by consistently sharing visually appealing and relevant content on the Instagram platform.

Key Metrics:

  • Follower Growth: Increase Instagram followers by 15%.
  • Reach and Impressions: Boost monthly post reach and impressions by 20%.
  • Engagement Rate: Improve overall engagement rate (likes, comments, shares) on posts by 10%.

Strategy:

  • Develop a content calendar with a mix of high-quality visuals, engaging captions, and Instagram Stories to maintain a consistent posting schedule.
  • Leverage relevant hashtags and geotags to expand content reach to a wider audience.
  • Actively engage with the audience through comments, direct messages, and user-generated content to build a sense of community.

Timeline:

Measure progress weekly and make adjustments to the strategy as needed. Evaluate the overall achievement of the goal at the end of the quarter.

This goal is effective because it is specific in targeting a particular platform (Instagram), measurable through key performance indicators, attainable with a well-defined strategy, relevant to the broader brand visibility objectives, and time-bound with a specific timeframe for evaluation.
