There are several reasons marketers will distribute their content. Some hope their content will drive traffic to their website, while others hope it’ll help generate new leads.

Setting a content distribution goal is the foundation to building a strategy that drives results. This is accomplished by understanding the purpose behind your distribution efforts, and making your goal SMART.

What is an example of a content distribution goal you would like to set?

Remember, a SMART goal is specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. To learn more about this, check out the Developing a Content Distribution Strategy lesson via HubSpot Academy.

An example of a content distribution goal I would set is to increase traffic to my brand’s website by sharing consistent, value-driven content on Instagram and TikTok. My goal would be to grow website visits by 20% within the next three months by posting at least four times per week and using clear calls-to-action that encourage viewers to click the link and learn more.

If my purpose is to convert new leads to customers, my goal could be to convert 5 new leads to purchasing customers in the next month by sending them personalized discounted offers to their emails based on their search patterns on our website.

If your objective is to increase brand awareness, your goal could be to reach a certain number of new audiences within a specific timeframe. Alternatively, if lead generation is your priority, your goal might be to generate a set number of qualified leads from your content channels. To make your goal effective, it should be SMART—Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. For instance, you might set a goal to increase website traffic from social media platforms by 20% over the next three months. This provides a clear target and deadline, allowing you to measure success accurately. Additionally, understanding your audience and choosing the right distribution channels are crucial to achieving your goal. If your target audience is active on LinkedIn, then focusing your efforts there makes sense. Setting such a goal helps guide your content creation and distribution strategies, ensuring efforts are aligned with desired outcomes. It also allows for performance tracking and adjustments along the way. Overall, a well-defined distribution goal acts as a roadmap, helping you focus your resources and efforts effectively to drive meaningful results for your marketing objective

Next, leverage platform-specific features: on Instagram, utilize Stories, Reels, and IGTV to diversify content formats; on TikTok, focus on trending sounds, challenges, and hashtags to increase visibility. Consistently post at optimal times when your target audience is most active to maximize reach. Engage actively with followers by responding to comments, asking questions, and encouraging user-generated content, which boosts organic reach through algorithm favorability.
Additionally, collaborate with micro-influencers or brand ambassadors who can authentically promote your products to their followers, expanding your reach. Track engagement metrics regularly to identify what content resonates most and refine your strategy accordingly. By combining compelling content, strategic platform use, active engagement, and influencer collaborations, you can effectively drive organic traffic and reach your 6,000-visit goal within the specified timeframe.

Increase 3% traffic into active leads for a established Brand

By gathering all the information from scattered strategies, review and identify the gap, set a new value-added content strategy workflow, divided the content creation with distinct sub-part, form and assign a team as per sub-part responsibilities with specific scheduled plan/Gantt chart, monitor the plan (& adjust if required) through one specific tool.

Create new and updated blog posts that are focused on helping our persona audience. Focus the strategy into earned and owned channels. For earned, go after organic search with on page optimization and link building. For owned, promote new blog articles heavily on social media and email newsletters. The goal is in 3 months to generate an extra 635 website visits that produce leads for new insurance quotes and attain 12 new customers per month.
