Pitfalls to Avoid When Creating Landing Pages

Creating and optimizing landing pages is a crucial step in your lead generation efforts. What's a common mistake I always see and try to avoid? Not having a second offer or CTA on the thank you page.

It’s a smart move to keep your primary offer nice and clean on your landing page and not confuse people with multiple CTAs. However, once you’ve given the promised content to the lead, you are wise to garner their support by asking them to do something whilst they are "hot."

I always suggest making sure you utilize the thank-you page to place another CTA or offer. For example, you could ask people to share the content via a Click to Tweet link.

Pitfalls to Avoid When Creating Landing Pages

A common mistake to avoid when creating landing pages is not including a second offer or call-to-action on the thank-you page, as it is an opportunity to engage with the lead further while they are still actively interested.

Keep it clean! Few images, clear CTA, and get rid of navigation menu, everything should lead them to the CTA.

Unclear CTA: Make sure your call to action is clear and persuasive.
Information Overload: Keep the page focused and concise.
Poor Design: Ensure your page is visually appealing and user-friendly.
Inconsistent Messaging: Align your landing page with your ad or link.
No Testing or Optimization: Regularly test and optimize page elements.
Ignoring Analytics: Use analytics to understand visitor behavior.
Lack of Trust Signals: Include testimonials, reviews, and trust badges.

Not being transperant what the call for action is. If your going to download an e-book when you click, it should be transperant.

We definitely suffer with not having 1 call to action, landing pages being used a Microsite or link repository not a focussed goal

Make sure there is enough content to grab the attention of the reader and that creates a desire to go forward - over design or not clear messaging can become confusing and could make the reader to leave the page.

1. Must have negative space or page should not be over designed

2. Never should have multiple CTA

Pitfalls to Avoid When Creating Landing Pages

Great advice here. I would also add these have helped me boost conversions:

  • Minimize any exits from the landing page - no menus, links, etc.
  • Add a single customer quote if possible - it should be large enough to stand out on the page
  • Always add another offer on the thank you page to move prospects further down the funnel.

Keep it simple and easy for readers. Anything that is long and draining will scare customers away.
