Re: Pitfalls to Avoid When Creating Landing Pages

Creating and optimizing landing pages is a crucial step in your lead generation efforts. What's a common mistake I always see and try to avoid? Not having a second offer or CTA on the thank you page.

It’s a smart move to keep your primary offer nice and clean on your landing page and not confuse people with multiple CTAs. However, once you’ve given the promised content to the lead, you are wise to garner their support by asking them to do something whilst they are "hot."

I always suggest making sure you utilize the thank-you page to place another CTA or offer. For example, you could ask people to share the content via a Click to Tweet link.

Make sure the CTA matches the content.  Don't stretch the CTA if its not appropriate, fine tune your content.  If your not seeing CTAs, update/refresh your content.   Think about your landing page, if the persona is in a different stage, maybe there needs to be two different CTAs.

This is a great example, i second that.
Thank you pages & confirmation pages/emails generally are very powerful and a CTA there can really be effective. Thanks for sharing

Make sure that the words are clear and concise to prevent misunderstanding. Furthermore, remove the navigation box to increase conversion rate and decrease bounce rate. As for form, make sure consider your target audience. Do they prefer a form or a chatbot? Usually, a name and an email are sufficient. Additionally, mention the benefits that the readers will receive. That way, you're more likely to increase the traffic to your landing page.

Removing the navigation and having social proof are wise choices to keep the visitor focused and providing social credibility to increase trust in your brand and your offer.

Make sure it is clear what you are directing the user too, high-res images, must flow well with the rest of the page.

Agree with a lot of the comments below. Brevity is key - both from a fields & copy perspective. I want to make it as easy as possible for a lead to complete it quickly. We follow up post landing page to capture more information in certain instances so we can customize content based on their preferences, level of interest, etc.

One thing we are careful about is lack of symetry. From the ad/mail/post through the landing page to the final conversion screen, we make sure UI and content is coherent, value adding and pertinent. We of course also make sure to minimize distraction.

It is important that the message on the landing is clear and concise, consists of high-res images and well placed CTA’s to capture your leads.

Avoid creating a landing page that does not align with the offer. This creates a bad user experience and damages trust.

Making a landing page without a clear goal, some landing pages have confusing compositions making it very hard to navigate and making the prospect lose focus or just leave.
