Currently, when 2 or more records are merged, all the original records remain in general portal-wide searches. All the records other than the primary are blank and don't serve any purpose, and luckily don't show up in record -specific list searches, however this still causes confusion when our users need to look something up and want to use the general search bar. General search results In this example, 3 duplicates of a custom Distriburtor object record "Big Blue Air Limited" have been merged. When searching, all 3 come up, however only the bottom left result is the primary record. The top 2 results look like this: Unfortunately, we can't delete these blank records as that results in all 3 being deleted. Ideally, when records are merged there should be no searchable trace of the old records that were being de-duplicated. The duplicates don't show up in object list searches (as seen below), however it would be beneficial to all users to be able to effectively use the general search to quickly find the records they need.
