Update/Overwrite/Append Data Options for Contact Property Fields

Basically for each property I want 3 options to choose from:
1) Update value if blank
2) Append to value
3) Overwrite value

Sample use case(s):
Append Option: Notes Field
I have a comments field on my contact form where someone sends us a query. If that contact later submits another query I don't want to lose the previous info from my records. I want to see the new information appended to that field.  (Can't keep creating new properties and using smart properties).

Overwrite Option
Standard as happens curently with most fields, if a contact enters a new phone number it overrides the previous data to keep it updated with the latest information.

Update if Blank option - Lead Source
When a lead comes in, I assign the Lead Source to it, but I only want that updated if there is no previous Lead Source assigned to it. I don't want subsequent forms to overwrite the value. Smart Field(s) works only partially because if I use the API to submit forms, smart fields do not stop it from being overwritten.

Thanks

Hello HubSpot Community,

Thank you as always for your continued feedback, it helps us build a great product.

We are constantly evaluating and re-evaluating our priorities and roadmap to deliver as much value to our customers as possible. It is currently possible to append data to a multiple checkbox property. Here is an article that describes that functionality. However, at this time, adding additional functionality to our import tool is not something our team is currently planning to build natively into HubSpot. This is certainly subject to change in the future and we will update this idea if that becomes the case.

HubSpot Product Team - this has been deprioritized for nearly 5 years and this is really needed especially in forms. It feels like it shouldn't be too heavy of a lift to make a hidden field append a value rather than overwriting all existing values: Our examples: we have our own custom source property and based on forms they submit, we want to add additional ways they've interacted with us to this source property via form submissions. Additionally, we have an event registration breakdown property that we hide on our general workshop registration form to keep track of different events. Right now, having this on the form overwrites all previous values, so we have to build a workflow to append the values for us and then remember to update things in two places instead of just in the form which would be easier. Please launch this functionality soon! Forms have become so robust, this would help take us even further!

This is a mess. The default action should be to append existing checkboxes, not overwrite them. We constantly lose data from imports, forms, etc. because of errors or because the forms do not allow us to append multiple checkbox entries.

Agree with all of the above. This is ridiculoud. It's 2025. Your system has the ability to amend checkbox fields via workflows and when uploading a list with a semicolon. We just need a simple radio button in the form builder to choose if we want to amend or overwrite. This issue is causing us hours of works to repair.

This functionality is absolutely essential — it’s hard to believe it still hasn’t been implemented. Our workflows are suffering, taking twice as long due to the workarounds we have to use just to prevent data from being overwritten.

Can't wait to see this in beta !!

I need this for a Product Interest property. We offer products, but we are also adding additional consulting services. Currently, if a contact submits a form with a product interest checked and later submits another form for consulting services, the field will be overwritten with the newest interest rather than appending the newest one to the property.

I would definitely use this feature!
