We have software data sheets in the File Manager that we link to on our site for customer download. We need to have the ability to track how many times these pdfs are downloaded for viewing, as well as being able to see what web pages these linked documents can be found.
Thxs for the idea - already do that to get a feel for how a campaigns are doing, but doesn't help much beyond that. Our sales team's specific ask is very simple - "can you tell me if a client, or other people in their organization looked at a piece of content." Way too big of a task for a small team to create CTAs for every piece of content we have, so haven't figured out a good way yet. Think this tracking idea gives you more of a 1:Many Insights - one file / URL : Multiple places to click that URL (website, social, email, ...) to access the content; tracking allows you to see interest by specific contact or organization, as well as source (web, social, email, etc.) performance. Lots you can do with those insights. Hmm... seems like a simple ask of the HubSpot team.
It honestly feels downright silly that Hubspot doesn't already have this functionality, with all the tracking capabilities they DO have. It would also be great to have the tracking functionality of "Documents" be able to be inserted in more than just sales emails, but in marketing emails, landing pages, etc!
Right now we want to track how many times a file has been downloaded and the source from where it was done. There is not such a tool right now! Please we really need this! +Vote
We also send documents to users and need to track the activity on the files, specially if there's a functionality to track like the one Documents has (time spent, extention pop-up when opened etc.). For manual e-mails we can use Documents, but we tried to automate the standard documents to be sent to users and looks like there's no option to see any statistics through Files.
I fully agree with 2iQ, we should be able to track:
1 - number of downloads for any asset stored in file manager
2 - who/when clicked and downloaded should feed into the contact timeline. This one is just as important as number 1.
We should also be able to add a Document and/or a File as an asset in a campaign with the above statistics tracked and reported with the rest of the campaign stats. This is a basic and important function that I'm very surprised doesn't have a solution that fits into a campaign.
We're currently in our Hubspot trial, looking to move away from Act-On. The fact that Hubspot lacks a convenient way to track user downloads is not only disappointing, but potentially deal-breaking for us. Even if we were to upgrade to Sales Hub pro and use Document Manager, we wouldn't be able to offer CAD files and zip fles as downloads.
The CTAs, even the supposed "link only" ones, are not always feasible to implement, especially when you have product pages that are automatically generated.
Is there any update on this idea? Our problem is the same as the original issue submitted 5 years ago. We need the ability to track how many times a pdf in the File repository is downloaded for viewing, and what web pages/marketing emails these linked documents can be found.
As you can see - this was recently changed to "not planned". We did that foreseeing that in 2023 we will not be able to work on this project, and wanted to make sure that everyone was updated on where things stand. We will update this post further when work for this is planned again! I am also happy to chat with anyone here and see if we can find any workable solutions.
They care too much about adding new half-baked features, versus enhancing the ones they have that their customers actually need. I just migrated one of my clients away from HS this week. With this change, I see many more migrations in the future.
