The Ability to Update Line Items Prices when Products are updated

Currently, any updates on the Product Library such a Product Prices, the changes will not be reflected on existing deal's Line Items. Only new deals moving forward are updated with the new price. For existing deals, there are only two options for customer to update the line items:

  • Manually go to each deal, go to the line items and update the line items
  • Work with a developer to utilise this endpoint - Update a group of line items

It would be great if changes can be made directly from HubSpot CRM app automatically when Product Prices are updated. Perhaps there would be a pop up to check if user would like to update existing non-closed won deals line items

Customer's use case:

  • Let's say a Sales Rep is working on a deal with a Close Date 1 Dec 2020. The product associated with the deal is Software Package A with the price of $200
  • At the end of this year, 31 Dec 2019, there would be an increase in Software Package A. The new price for Package A has not been announced yet - as it will only be announced in 31 Dec 2019
  • Next year, in 2020, sales rep would need to update any deals that he owns that contains the product Software Pacakge A. Sales rep would have to go to each deal individually or work with a developer to update all his affected deals. It would be great if the changes in Product Prices can be updated automatically from in-app

More importantly, as a manager if you want to do analysis of year over year sales, and want to compare using SKUs, you need the old products to reflect the SKUS. This is very limiting without the SKUs applying retroactively or providing a bulk way without using a developer. We have hundreds of deals and products that have closed since we started using the system, so we can't go back manually to modify.

As a new start-up, we are constantly making changes to product names, pricing features, etc. When I change the name of the product line, it does not change all existing deals with that product line. You can either change it manually or your reporting data will be skewed, because if you want to pull by packages it will all be different.

Additionally I'd love the ability to mass update line items like one would deals, products, etc.

With a library of almost 200,000 SKUs in the system, the HubSpot interface makes it very difficult to do bulk updates or changes. There should also be clear information about price updates, when they go live, and which deals will be affected in the settings interface.

this is a huge feature that would solve a ton of manual work!

Hi Sheldon,

Agree this would be very useful functionality, or at the very least when a new quote is added update the pricing on the existing line items. If we want to use a dynamic pricing model that would be impossible with the current system. Often our deals have a minimum of half a dozen line items. It is unrealistic to expect a salesperson to manually remove and then re-add all of their line items every time they need to refresh a quote. Hubspot don't seem to have an answer to this or how the Hubspot quoting system can work with a dynamic pricing model. I would be interested to hear if anyone else has a solution to this.

The least that could happen here is that when you Clone a Quote it pulls all the existing line items from the Product Library again.

Absolutely key for reporting for us

For our use case prices should not be overwritten on line items based on product changes BUT a lot of other fields should be (e.g. SKUs, Product category etc) to allow us to accurately report, so having some control over which properties are controlled on product-level and which on line item level should be part of this

Reaching out with a possible solution here - our app LinePilot

With LinePilot you can add line items to your deals automatically, including from products, but if you trigger it multiple times it will re-fetch the product data from the product library. This means you could trigger LinePilot on a deal stage change or workflow, and the product data would update. You'd need to have added the line items through LinePilot in the first place for this to work.

So for example, LinePilot adds the line items for Package A in Year 1, when renewal comes in Year 2 the deal enters the workflow and re-runs LinePilot, which refetches the new product data and updates the price.
