Tax by line item on quotes

I know this has been proposed many times before by other members, but I too would greatly benefit from being able to apply, modify, or remove tax on a line item level on quotes.

Product library entries should have tax properties saved, and then I should be able to apply tax to only the line items that I want at the quote/deal level.

Hi Community,

In the next couple of weeks, my team is going to start releasing line item level taxes in HubSpot Invoices, and we’re looking for beta testers. If you’d like to participate in the line item taxes beta please sign up here.

You’re a good fit for this round of the beta at this round if:
1. You’re using HubSpot Invoices

2. You do not have any accounting integrations installed (like QuickBooks or Xero).

Not a good fit for this round but interested in future rounds?  Please submit the form anyways and let us know which of the tools you’re using.  When we get to your set of tools, we’ll reach out again and get you enrolled.

The rollout is currently estimated in this order -

  1. Invoices
  2. Subscriptions - recurring revenue with line item tax
  3. Payment links
  4. Quotes & Deals

This is an early beta, but this is generally the functionality you can expect:

  1. A new tax rate library in objects > products > tax rates.  The library allows you to specify a tax type like VAT - IE and a % rate, say 20%.
  2. New properties in the line items list that allow you to select a tax rate when you’re creating an Invoice.
  3. An updated totals component that calculates the taxes and displays them in totals.
  4. Full support for digital checkouts for commerce customers, including internal invoices for those payments with the tax information.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  I look forward to speaking with you soon.

Best Regards,
Victoria Gumaer

Hi @VictoriaGumaer

Very interested in this beta and overall this evolution. We are a Platinum partner and several customers are waiting for this development. Particularly a prospect who would like to switch to HubSpot to generate invoices with products subject to different VAT rates depending on the product (food, drinks, ...)
I just filled out the form 😉
Thanks

This feature unfortunately suffers from the same limitations as the previous beta feature that came out years ago. Line item taxes are limited to only two decimal points.

We're really disappointed to see history repeating itself after this was reporting to Hubspot in excess over 2 years ago.

Our tax region here in Quebec has a provincial tax of 9.975%. With Hubspot we can only charge 9.97%(in which case we are shorting ourselves for what has to be remitted to the goverment) or 9.98%(which would be illegal).

I won't hold my breath but if this adaptation isn't too complicated for your software engineers. It should have been designed this way from the start.

Hi @VictoriaGumaer can I please confirm if there is an update on this request as this will greatly benefit our organization as well.

Hello, community.  I'm swinging by for what is my last update on this issue as I am transitioning the remainder of this rollout to @JKwock (he likes emails at jkwock@hubspot.com too).  Remember, if you want to participate in this beta, submit the form.  We'll get you in as soon as your usecase (based on tools used) can be supported!

Here's where we stand with this beta today -
- LI taxes beta for Invoices is running. Invoices are one-time line items.  Invoices with LI taxes do not sync to QBO yet.
- The team is now scaling back to the other tools (subscriptions, quotes, payment links, deals, etc.) with support for recurring LI Taxes.  That's the next big release.
- The team is also now investigating auto-tax calculation through Stripe.  We have to get this foundation out the door first, and we think that one will beta sometime in Q4/Q1, but those dates may change.

Thank you so much for everyone that has tested this out, provided feedback, and helped the team build this feature. I know we've still got a ways to go before we cross that finish line, but you're in great hands with Jason!

@xx-OAIM can you reach out to jkwock@hubspot.com about the decimal place issue please?

(+1) It would be extremely helpful if we could apply tax by line item as opposed to the entire quote as not all of the products within our quotes are taxable, whereas others need to be.

When creating a payment link the products tax value can only be added to the initial Price (annual subscription fee) but not to the renewal fee, that price shows without the tax. it can be that difficult to add this feild.

Can you please add this feature. as how it is is very misleading and will cause issues when the subscription fees are due.

We opted my client into the beta using the line item tax.  We received feedback from the client experience.  If the tax populates on the line item, why does it have to also populate underneath ALL the skus/products.  Is there a way to HIDE the additional tax reference UNDER the line item?

I need to edit/delete an incorrect "tax rate" that was entered, but even though I'm a super administrator, I can't edit this information after it's been entered, only create new ones, which doesn't make sense to keep the wrong information in the system, where my team can use it.

if i knew what a hassle working with hubspot quotes is I would have never started. How is it possible the tax is only calculated for the first year but not the second year when I have a line item that is billed yearly but runs for multiple years...

the fact that this feature still is not included is insane to me

Would love to see this feature implemented, and frankly I am shocked Hubspot doesn't have it included already.

You'd think that a company which is a subscription service would be eager to make taxing easier for other subscription service companies...

After all, tax is charged every time, not just on the first payment.

Hey, folks. My apologies for the long absence here.  This feature is now live. You can view the documentation for it here - https://community.hubspot.com/t5/Releases-and-Updates/Apply-Taxes-on-Line-Items/ba-p/990660. With that being said, I'm seeing a few new entries come in that expan on the feature and I don't wan't to lose any of the feedback here.  Please open a new idea for things that go beyond what the current tax rate library can accomodate.
