Setting the Opt-outs to non-marketing contacts should be automated
I have noticed that if the contact unsubscribes from the marketing email, I need to change the contact to non-marketing contact manually. If a contact unsubscribes - they should move into non-marketing contacts automatically. And if the contact has already unsubscribed from marketing communication - you should not have the possibility to make the contact a marketing contact (over and over again) You should get a notification that the person has unsubscribed previously --> the contact cannot be set as marketing contact IF the contact does not approve to be a marketing contact by itself.
This challenge occurs especially with bigger marketing emails.
Why are there never any responses to these types of questions? This is a basic function that should have more actionable means of updating versus manually having to change every one.
I think I found a way to handle this. The instructions were written using a desktop browser.
1. Go to Automations/Workflows and click the 'Edit actions' button next to the Workflow you want to edit. 2. Right before the first email to be sent, hit the '+' sign and click 'Branch' in the left pane 3. Click on 'Based on a single property value' in the left pane 4. Click into the 'Select a property' box 5. In the pop up window search for 'unsubscribe' and choose 'Unsubscribed from all email' 6. Click the 'Next' button at the top of the left pane 7. Under Branch 1 select 'True' and click the 'Save' button at the top of the pane 8. In the Insert Branch dialog box, select the radio button next to 'Move the following actions to a specific branch' 9. In the drop down choose 'None met' 10. It will create a split in the Workflow. Hit the '+' under 'True' 11. In the left pane click on 'Marketing' 12. Select 'Set marketing contact status' 13. Under the 'Marketing contact status', choose 'Set as non-marketing contact' 14. Click the 'Save' button at the top of the left pane
I have not tested this but it looks like it should work. If you're sending multiple emails in a workflow, you probably have to set up one of these branches prior to each email.
It is all about the money/profit for HubSpot. I was sure it was standard that a contact who unsubscribed would be removed as a marketing contact immediately. The reason I Google it was because it was not possible to see how many marketing contacts you have in real time which was a bit sneaky and made it easy to cross the marketing contact limit leading to huge extra costs (which I highly believe is intenional).
