Set Association Labels On Records via a Workflow

I would love to be able to add in the new association labels using a workflow - rather than needing to do this manually.

this would enable businesses who have contact A who makes a booking and Contacts B, C, D etc who attend a course or an event flagged as attendees. so a business knows which are valuable contacts.

It would also be helpful to be able to use a workflow to send different communications to clients based on their association tag.

Looking forward to when this is implemented! Appreciate the updates. It will be nice to have this done automatically via a workflow and not have to update manually.

Great news everyone, please follow along in this other thread to join the private beta of the Data panel feature:

Hi everyone,

As we work hard on the Data panel with associated data private beta, I wanted to give another update as there has been some confusion surrounding our current work. While we have not started on the work to automatically apply association labels using the Workflows tool, we are prepping for it. The beta I linked to in my last message refers to a feature that is NOT to apply association labels using our tool. Instead, it allows the use of associated data in fields across the app, much like the "personalization tokens" that can be inserted into many text fields. Read below for more information:

Hi Zeke,
thanks for the update and clarification.

I got to admit it is a big setback and great disappointment though.
We really need help to auto apply labels through workflows, otherwise a lot of our automation, especially for deals, is useless.

We would use a property if we could but right now, you only allow for all deals to move from a stage to another.
While we can have several deals for a same contact or company, as I'm sure a lot of businesses do.

Please keep us updated on this !
Thank you very much 🙏

@zeke Appreciate the update. Will there be provision for Internal Email Notifications, or only in-app/mobile app notifications? Email notifications are far more visible & provide an actionable item - so this is very critical for us. Thanks!

Note: We also have multiple deals for the same contact, and the association update (Stage 2) is the most important feature request for our company at this point.

I also got admitted to the Beta but I struggle to find added value in my current processes in Hubspot. Label automation will make a big impact!

@NPW Yes, we're planning on adding support for almost every field. The Internal Email Notification is currently being worked on and should be ready in a few weeks.

Sorry to dissapoint about the pace of the setting of association labels, we'll continue to work hard on that and give an update once it's ready.

@zeke - any chance we'll be able to view assocation labels in list/table view with this? Currently, we can only see the labels within a record itself. Once you click "view assocaited contacts" (for example, on a deal), assocation labels are effectively rendered useless as there is nowhere to view them.

@jaybaum sorry, that type of work is not related to the Workflows tool so we're not able to work on that directly. However, I will pass along that piece of feedback to the relevant team and see what can be done about that.

Excited to see this beta roll out and continued work on association label functionality! 👏

We have multiple Enterprise clients that desperately need this solution. Seems like it should have been added when labels werre first introduced. We tried to acheive this with custom coded actions, but HubSpot does not provide documentation for this 😞 Please have this ready this year, it would be a game changer!

It is so painful that this isn't available

Since setting associations + labels between Contacts and in our case various Custom Objects (based on certain contact properties) is vital to our business case, I have looked into this quite a bit. All existing solutions (e.g. Associ8) did not work for us, so we have actually developed a Airflow & Python-based solution to do it automatically at scale (since we use this setup to extract data from Hubspot to our DWH anyway).

I might write a blog post on it soon, please reach out if you're interested in any details!

We have taken a similar approach: we use custom code actions in workflows to perform "look-ups," then associate objects + apply association labels. It works beautifully, but even still, we're limited because only a few people on our team can write/edit node.js -- meaning they alone can create the custom code actions, and worse, troubleshoot them.

Not everyone has the luxury of an in-house resource to write custom code actions on demand, so we'd be out of luck otherwise. Adding this capability to workflows (even just at professional or even enterprise level!) would level up so many HubSpot admins who can otherwise move mountains in their low/no-code portals.

@yrabow @laurabren I would be keen to take a look at how you have done it and would appreciate any insight. We have a couple of needs met by associ8 and we are doing some things via Zapier but it makes our flows quite complex for a simple task. We have some people in our dept that could support with writing code in a custom coded action but its not something we have done yet.
