Hi all! The messages are reaching me! Apologies for not posting an update sooner. I'm putting this into Being Reviewed because it is a project I am hoping we can get to later this year. I can't make any promises right now though.
Reading through the comments, it looks like there are a few different ideas represented here, falling into two main categories:
The ability to intentionally save an email in a Draft state because you're still workshopping the content, reviewing with colleagues, etc., and want to revisit it later.
An autosave functionality in the email communicator that reloads the content previously there if there is a glitch or you accidentally refresh your browser, etc.
It will likely take a few different teams to accomplish these different asks. If we're able to work on one and not the other, I will clarify that here and create a separate idea to track, if necessary. UPDATE: https://community.hubspot.com/t5/HubSpot-Ideas/Autosave-draft-emails/idc-p/926848 was put on my radar as a related post. Let's use that one to track if 2 is your use case, and this will be for 1!
Hi everyone - Thanks so much for your comments and engagements on this thread. We take your feedback very seriously and have been tracking the popularity of this request. We don't currently have the bandwidth to tackle this work right now, so I'm updating the status of this idea to reflect that. Apologies that it's not better news, but I will be back here with an update if and when we are able to move forward with this!
A "Back Arrow" and "Forward Arrow" akin to the Microsoft feature being available when composing emails would be of immense value.
I just spent 35 minutes drafting a complicated email. I attempted to copy it via the mouse and somehow deleted the email. There is no available tool or feature to recover that email that I'm aware of.
This is far from the first time I have had this problem occur.
When I write an extremely complicated email, I write it in Word to have the Back and Forward Arrows available for editing.
It is crucial to automatically save email drafts not only in the email function, but also when using "reply all," "reply," and "forward". I frequently respond to my customers, but yesterday, while using HubSpot to do so, I unfortunately lost my entire email because I was checking for additional information in the notes. It's important to prioritize the implementation of auto-saving functionality to prevent such incidents and ensure a seamless user experience.
During high-volume situations, we may need to juggle some key tickets simultaneously and prioritize accordingly. Sometimes, we draft up an email and get a call right away. The potential to lose unsaved work is too great. This feature would help mitigate this, so this has my vote.
It felt like an absolute fundamental requisite of any system that sends emails, to be able to save them in draft before sending. As a new subscriber, we might have considered looking at other tools if we'd realised this wasn't possible. I'm shocked that considering how long users have complained about this feature being missing, the issue still exists. We need this feature now, so will need to see what workarounds we can come up with to resolve this basic requirement.
How many more upvotes needed to get this sorted? It's been YEARS. Was about to go all in on the Pro package but I'm deciding against it entirely due to little things like this.
I'm submitting this on behalf of my customer. We would like to see or retrieve the email draft after trying to reply to an email and then leaving the page. Currently, this only works when starting a new conversation, if we leave the page without sending the email it does save it so we can continue editing, but it does not happen when replying to an existing thread if we leave the page without sending the email we have to start from scratch.
@hroberts checking in 3 years + several upvotes/comments later - can this be revisited? It is such a basic feature, and our workflow (needing to copy/paste from an outside source to ensure drafts are preserved) is much clunkier without it.

I also appreciate the update. However, as a paying customer, I don’t appreciate “later this year” as a deadline. This is beyond acceptable, ridiculous, and a clear negligence from the Hubspot team. Unbelievable, to say the least.
