Remove second step to update phone number

When I update a contact's phone number, I enter the phone number, then click "Done." That should be all I need to do, but there is a second step if I want my change to take effect. At the bottom of the screen, there is a banner that says "You've changed 1 property," and I have to click "Save" if I want my change to take effect. I thought I had added a bunch of phone numbers to existing contacts, but I didn't notice the banner at the bottom of the screen and didn't realize it was a two-step process, so I didn't really add the numbers. Is there a valid reason for this being a two-step process? If I want to add a phone number to a record, why would I need to confirm this with a second action?
