Prevent the reopening of conversations once assigned

When a conversation appears in the inbox, it gets assigned and the conversation closed (in the inbox) for the relevant Support owner to deal with the issue. What I would like to do is prevent this conversation to be reopened in the inbox each time there is a client or internal response on assigned conversations as this creates unnecessary admin of having to keep closing assigned conversations in order to ensure no new, unassigned conversations are missed.
