Prevent Additional Emails in Email Property

ABehring

In HubSpot, each contact can have multiple email addresses. This makes sense for deduplication in HubSpot, but is causing issues when integrated with Salesforce, which only allows 1 email value in the email field.

One particular use case: we're using ZoomInfo Enrich in HubSpot. If we already have a contact and ZI finds another email, it adds it to the email property. Because of that, the contact then has an error in syncing to Salesforce, since Salesforce can only have one email address in that field.

It's not possible to change email address in a workflow, as that is HubSpot's primary identifier for a contact. Ideally, we would prevent multiple email addresses and add a new property (secondary email) to map to our Secondary Email field in Salesforce.

Same problem here, have you found a solution?

@HPvr nope! I posted to the forum here after going through support and doing a lot of research. This seems to be a HubSpot limitation/Integration limitation.

Seriously considering other solutions because of this.

My biggest annoyance at this point is that I keep bringing it up every year and there is no response from support with a solution.

This presents an issue for us too. We treat email address as a unique ID (which I thought HubSpot did too) which makes it challenging to update a record or append any additional adata to it because there might be multiple contacts clumped up in it due to this addtional email feature.

Moreover, instances with mutiple email addresses allow mutiple people to make use of closed membership features like exclusive newsletters etc. available only to members.

I had to spend a considerable amount of time going through all the instances with mutiple email addresses and removing the extra ones, which might turn into a time-consuming regular task given there is no way to prevent this from occurring currently.

Hi there,

We would like to have the option/availability to turn off the additional email address to the same record as we found out below cases

  • If a different person uses the same device/browser, the email address is added to the same contact record. > but there should be 2 different records.
  • If the same person uses the same device/browser, but a different email address, HubSpot adds to the same record as well > then the email address is not the UI to map data anymore.

The only method to prevent this is updating the API script to retrieve data records by email address.

Hi Team, I am also looking for the same what will be the possible solution to prevent having multiple  emails  in contacts

I am also looking into this, we can't even do search using additional emails. Totally a worst decision from top to keep multiple email at contact level when you cannot do search it at contact listing page.

Upvoting this solution. We need the ability to turn off this feature on the account level.

We want each contact record in Hubspot to have a unique email address. We want to block anything integrations/users/form fills from creating records with multiple emails in the email field.

Same issue. Consistently causes issues between our product database and Hubspot, especially when users decide to create accounts with personal and work emails. We treat them separate, but they can often be lumped into one contact in Hub.

Removing secondary email or at least making it an entirely separate feild would be great.

I have the same issue with an integration to airtable, which stores all of our product data. As soon as there is an additional email on the contact record, the integration fails. Often we have people visiting the site with one email and then signing up with another and potentially even a third if it's been several years and they don't remember they have an account. Causing a lot of problems and would be easier to turn it off.
