Pause Automations During Holidays

Findings

I have explored various scenarios and investigated how to handle this automation.



  • There are limitations in the flows where we are unable to manage specific flows to pause and resume them. I have discussed this with HubSpot support, and they have confirmed that currently there is no general rule or flow type available to pause email automation in this way.

  • I have also searched the community and found that others have submitted the same idea, but it has not been implemented yet.

Currently, no custom development would allow the same either. This was cross-verified with several partner HubSpot organs and with the support itself.

What Can We Do?

One solution that we can implement is to create a holiday or company calendar and update the settings of each flow based on the calendar. This will allow us to pause the flows on specific dates to avoid sending emails.

 

  • In the workflow, there is an option to pause the flow for specific dates, but it needs to be implemented for each flow individually. However, we can implement this for the entire year to cover all holidays and off days.

Another solution is to create custom fields that are relevant for skipping emails and updating them through flows. However, it's important to note that this approach can create issues when triggered on the same contact.

 

When utilizing custom fields, you can set specific values or flags to indicate whether an email should be skipped for a particular contact. However, problems may arise when multiple flows are triggered simultaneously or in close succession for the same contact. This can result in conflicting values being set for the custom fields, leading to unpredictable behavior in email sending.

Yes, it would be great if we could have a global setting that paused sending marketing or sequence emails out on specified dates (holidays, weekends, etc). I would prefer a "pause" instead of a "skip," meaning that the email would be delayed until the next available day, instead of skipped entirely (not sent at all).
