Parent-child company properties available for workflows
Hello, this would be helpful for multiple reasons. An example of a use case would be to create a workflow to copy the parent company Hubspot owner to its child companies. Thanks!
This is now live! You can now create same object associations for more than just companies (so contact to contact etc.) and you can access data from these associated same objects in workflows and use it to update your records. You'll also be able to send emails in workflows to the enrolled contacts, associated contacts.

Hey @JDavis08 - The knowledge base article I shared in my last post will show you how to use these associations throughout the workflow tool, so I definitely recommend taking a look at that to see how. You'd either use the Set Property Value action or the Copy Property Value action to update a property on the parent or child. This is linked to the exact spot (or the bullet below for Copy Property Value) in the knowledge base article which should be the most helpful!
Just a quick update from the HubSpot product team! The public beta which allows you to access your parent-child company data in workflows is now open, enabling you to update properties on either the enrolled company or it's parent/child. As a part of this, the team has also rolled out the ability to associate records of the same object, other than companies, for example contact to contact. Once you set up these associations you will also be able to access their data in workflows.
To join the public beta just open your portal, click on the name of your portal on the top right, click on "Product Updates", and then look for the beta titled "Associate Records of the Same Object Type". Hi Everyone - I'm a product manager on the Automation team at HubSpot.
The ability to access data from parent/child companies in workflows, as well as from other same objects (for example contacts that are associated to each other), is currently in the final rounds of testing and bug bashing! Will update this status once it's in public beta and you can request access in your portal.
I agree. This would be very useful. We deal with a lot of franchises that have master pricing agreements at the corporate level and would like to copy that status down to all child companies to build lists and route them in workflows if MPA Status = Yes.
Critial feature - please ask this to be prioritized in your roadmap. Parent - child associations are nothing more than tags or labels right now. We need Hubspot's architecture to accommodate parent-child associations in a way that elements can interact. Thank you!!!
Need this as well! Hope it will be arranged soon. Often have to link information of child companies to parent companies and vice versa and with automation this keeps the database clean!
Really disappointed to have the feature of the Parent-Child relationships when you can't actually really use it. There's no point to even having it if you can't use the functionality all the way down to the contact level. Not too many industries where that hierarchy doesn't exist so I'm very surprised this hasn't been addressed yet.
Our use case for this feature is that our sales team works on an account level, not territorially or on the contact level. If one rep is reaching out to a parent company, we don't want another rep to reach out to a subsidiary, but rather have a single point of contact on our end for all parent/child-related companies. Once we sign new clients, we also grandfather in any other existing entities, so for the same reasons, we would want one owner across all accounts. While our rule of engagement account for these, a workflow that mapped the owner of all parent companies to the child entities would help keep the CRM cleaner and keep us less dependent on reps remembering to pull all subsidiaries into their names when they get the parent account.
We work with School Districts and having this capability would save so much time!! If we only filled in Parent Company (district) level data into specific properties and we could set up a workflow to automatically copy those specific property values to the child company (individual schools) page it would be so helpful!
This would be a really easy win for cleaning up data around parent/child companies - especially since HS doesn't have a great built in way to identify these parent/childs other than merging (which we would NOT want to do with these particular data records)
Currently, my reps are having issues when they prospect into an account just to find out it's a child company of an existing customer. I will then go and add the companies to parent/child relationship, but then also need to manually update all the data to have the child appear as a customer.
This is unbelievably necessary, especially with larger databases where we want to make sure the entire corporate entity is being taken care of by the same business development specialist. I'm very surprised that still, after five years, this hasn't been addressed. There are so many wins HubSpot could get if they took the time to focus on these small, yet crucial features that they somehow missed.
