Option to not assign a contact owner during first email
During testing of a unique business case, I identified that an unassigned Contact will be automatically assigned a Contact Owner if an email is sent through a connected inbox. Example: contact John Doe does not have an assigned Contact Owner. Sally Smith has a connected email and sends John Doe an email. As a result of this email, Sally Smith automatically becomes the Contact Owner of John Doe. This is not preferred. When I test changing other properties (i.e. change the Job Title or other custom fields) this automatic assignment does not occur. Only when emails are sent through a connected inbox.
I would like an optional setting to turn this off. There are many instances in which I do not want an automatic assignment of contact owners (when the contact is unassigned).
This is SO needed. We have product team members that reach out to prospects/customers regarding CSAT surveys. They're not the contact owner and shouldn't be. But when they log an email, they're automatically set as an owner. We had to setup a workflow to clear out non-sales ownership due to this. Would think a simple setting to turn this on/off would suffice here.
When I email contacts who don't have a contact owner, HubSpot automatically makes me the contact owner. I reached out to support and they said there isn't a way to turn this off, but to submit my suggestion here. This could be helpful for my team because depending on how reports are pulled (sorting by contact owner), it could make it look like we have more clients than we really do.
Auto assignment of contacts is a very frustrating feature as it cannot be turned off and is a source of frustration and confusion within our organization. Please provide a means for disabling this feature.
I'm having this issue. I recently sent out a sequence to a number of people, but I'm not their contact owner. I've now got a good few hundred people assigned to me and removed from other peoples caseloads! Would love to know how to stop automatic changes to the contact owner as that doesn't work for how we operate!!
This is needed. Anyone encountered specific or similar issues wherein an unassigned contact is being assigned by "Connected Inbox"? Also, is the automatic assignment triggered if a meeting link is sent to an unassigned contact and they just click it?
For almost everything you have to activate owner assignment functionalities or create a workflow for it.
I understand if you create the contact by sending the email through the extension, that you make that person the contact owner by default, that's similar to how contact create works.
But sending an email via the extension when the contact already exists in Hubspot (unassigned), should not make it contact owner. Especially not now when using the lead object, only lead owner should be assigned in this case, contact owner should stay unassigned so we can keep control over when we do or do not want to assign a contact owner.
This idea is pending since 2018.. we're 7 years later, would be nice if you can squeeze this update in somewhere.
This auto assignment of the Contact Owner property when sending an email is causing us issues as well. An option to disable this feature is greatly needed. Thanks.
