Presently there are generally 2 options for the cookie banner. Opt-in or accept all. This doesn't come close to covering the breadth of global cookie regulations and basically forces us, if we want to be completely legal, to make everyone in the world opt-in for cookies when that isn't necessary.
We need the ability for people to opt-out. There should be an option to add a decline button and a preferences link to the notification banner when you aren't requiring opt-in. You should also be able to add a preferences link under "do not sell or share" per CCPA requirements.
It appears to me that the general functionality exists, we just need to be able to access the preferences, with the default set to accepted instead of declined, and then have a way to add the correct buttons to the banner and the footer of our pages.
Hi @SEllisDaon! My name is Rada and I'm the product manager for HubSpot's cookie consent tools. Thank you for this feedback!
Both the 'Require opt-in' and 'Display cookies by category' banner types will automatically block cookies until the visitor gives their consent to be tracked, however, my understanding is that you'd prefer to have the banner drop cookies by default and then give the visitor the option to opt-out and remove those cookies. Let me know if my understanding is incorrect. Which set of countries would you hope to target with this behavior?
You're right that we do not currently have an option for a 'Do not sell or share' link, so I've also taken this on as feedback. You may be interested to know that we currently have support for GPC signals in public beta (more here).
Hi @radapop. Sorry for the delayed response. I was out of the office.
Yes, that is exactly what I'm asking for. Many places, the United States for instance, do not require Opt-In, so by setting their cookies to blocked as the default, we are significantly limiting the amount of marketing data we can collect.
My company is global, so we want to set our cookie policies to match those of every region we do business in. In general, countries in the EU and UK are the only ones that strictly enforce opt-in at the moment. The US and Australia, both places we have major offices, do not. The same can be said for many other countries where we do business.
Is it possible to get the opt out option not showing the banner on the page load? At the moment all options force banner on page load and none gives just an option just to open cookie preferences.
