Number of Associated Contacts/Deals Property for Custom Object

The "Number of Associated Contacts" or "Number of Associated Deals" properties are super helpful, especially for Companies. However, I'd like to be able to use these properties for a Custom Object to track the number of different associations. This would be super helpful for managing custom objects and their associations. Thanks!
