Non Marketing Contact Status only changing monthly

KSweeney27

It is EXTREMELY frustrating that changing the Marketing Contact Status to Non-Marketing Contact is only updated once a month.

For one, you cannot tell by looking at a record if you have marked it to be changed the next month. You have to go through several steps to figure this out which is a waste of time.

Second, this appears to be purely a monetary benefit to HubSpot. HubSpot has NO restriction on making a contact a Marketinh Contact and adding more contacts to your monthly bill, however, it restricts being able to control maintaining the same contact level. This is beyond frustrating.

IF YOU CAN IMMEDIATELY CHANGE A CONTACT TO A MARKETING CONTACT, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO IMMEDIATELY CHANGE IT TO A NON MARKETING CONTACT!!!!!!!! I cannot think of one case that the benefit would be that this only happen once a month, other than it being that HubSpot can make MORE money off their customers.

Business changes frequetly, contact status changes frequently, we, THE CUSTOMER, should not be punished for doing business.

Hey @KSweeney27 .

I get your frustration.  There are a few things that may be helpful. Not completely solve for currently, but at least can help.

1. is that you can see on the record a few thing:

If they are set as a marketing contact, if they are set through the next billing cycle.  This shows as blank or "--" if they are not marketing contacts.  These properties can be pull tot he front of your record if you need. It I recommend adding a card specifically for this.

2. You can create workflows to change contacts to non marketing status each month.
You'd obviously need to figure out some kind of criteria for removing people.  One we like is removing people that have not engaged ina while.  Especially folks that are on the do not email list or have been flagged by HubSpot as unengaged.

While I don't think we will have the ability to subtrack marketing contacts in the same month any time soon there are ways we can help to manage it a bit better.

Let me know if you ever want to schedule a call with our team to get some of this set up.

Just, yes. I've also moved the "Marketing Contact Status," and "Marketing Contact Until Next Update," fields into the left column view of Contact records, but the non-immediacy of this process is somewhat antiquated. Also, if a person is deceased, this is a huge problem: Deceased status, when known, should engender immediate removal from all marketing, not 1-4 weeks later.

Thanks @tjones, I appreciate the input/suggestion.

The biggest issue I am having is that it is an immediate change for a contact to be set as a marketing contact, however, we only have once a month to change to non-marketing. So we have to be super diligent about things and calculated on the "when" to change. Additionally, HubSpot has the right to immediately charge me if I go over without a chance to recify the issue, and worse I have to wait until my renewal date to have it be changed.

Thank you @mikegbuzzy ! Perhaps the more attention we can bring to this, maybe, possibly it could change. There are better ways to nickel and dime customers than this method. 😎

Completely agree with this. I set contacts to non-marketing today but have to wait until the new month for it to take effect. If we go over our contact limit in the meantime, I get billed. The count should update when the update is made.

We have cases where a contact books a meeting, then rejects our offer and asks not to receive any marketing emails.

But currently, there’s no quick way to mark them as non-marketing contacts immediately. Because of this, marketing emails might still go out, which can lead to complaints.

Yes, changing to a non-marketing contact should be immediate. Hubspot is begging their clients to potentially violate CAN-SPAM laws. This is unacceptable.

+1 EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING PROCESS

feels antiquated and like a money-grab. c'mon hubspot, help us out here!

We're new to Hubspot, and almost sent multiple markeing emails to Non-Markeing contacts because of this non-intuitive and LIMITING policy.  Please!  We're doing our best not to annoy people, and to avoid any non-compliance to can-spam.  CHANGE THE PROCEDURE please.
