AS admin in companies with more than 50 users, we should be able to manage permissions to merge contacts since it implies "manipulating" the database by anyone who can edit contacts even if he is not aware of the impact merges could have.
I had to google where the merge controls were because I'm shocked it's not aligned with delete records - this is crazy that ANYONE can merge records? Actually shook that I have no control or approval or verification here. This has MASSIVE ripple effects and impacts.
This is a MUST HAVE for all objects. It completely screws up data integrity and possible connections between systems. Or at least the possibility to de-activate the merge function entirely. TBH i would much rather disable it and not take the risk of having this functions used incorrectly.
Newbie users are able to merge contacts. Sometimes they merge customers with non-customers, confusing the support team and sometimes causing them to give non-customers the customer's information. It's ridiculous.
Users need to be able to make changes to some of the properties in companies and contacts.
But to give them access to do small changes, requires us to give them access to be able to be able to do way too much.
We need to be able to secure our account database without allowing users to essentially delete companies by merging them into other companies.
Ideally, we should be able to have different permission for access for companies that are paying customers, (that should only be edited by the finance department), and new prospects created by salespeople. New prospects can be edited by the average user. Paying customers edited only by Finance.
Would love the ability to lock users from being able to merge objects, specifically deals. This would help as merging objects often screws up key meta data regarding how the object was created.
Bump. This needs to happen yesterday. I have a team member that frequently merges companies that are not the same. Just found they merged a company in Michigan with one in IRELAND because they had the same name - they just failed to look at the other signals. Time and time again they're instructed not to, but they still do it. I can't remove their edit permissions - if I did, they couldn't do their job.
Please make merge permissions its own setting for all objects.
This is a huge pain point or us as well. In our case, hubspot companies are integrated with our software that we provide, and causes huge issues when somebody merges two companies together because they "thought they were the same". Once they are merged, it is then impossible to unravel what was what. You've either got to give us an undo, or have a way to block this.
@JacobT14 If you don't need to merge often, you could get a Salesforce Developers Sandbox account and activate the HubSpot <> Salesforce integration. HubSpot support confirmed this would work (assuming you can get a free dev account to activate the integration).
Keep in mind, this blocks the merge feature for EVERYONE so might be too much of a headache to turn the integration on/off if you need to merge often.
This is not Good to have feature, infact it has to be enabled with all the license type, so that we can manage our data, giving merge access to everyone as a default feature is hampering the data and creating huge issues in the system. I hope to see this feature soon.
Yes please to this. We would like to restrict who can merge any object, especially company, contacts and deals. We have APIs being compromised as merging happens the wrong way round often.
We'd like to restrict record merging separetely with a specific merging permission.
Currently the merging functionality is enabled within the editing privileges, but sometimes we want to restrict merging even though the user can edit a record.
Today, we have that capability with importing records. A user can import records if they have editing permissions, but only if they also have the specific importing permission set.
It also would be good to define a specific merging permission within the object settings:
