Log activity without completing task

It would be very convenient to be able to log activities under a contact which you have a task scheduled for without having to complete the task at the same time.  This would allow ease of updating / moving tasks without having to create a new task every time you want to log an activity.  Significant time saver.  Thanks.

Hi Community,

Thank you for all the continued feedback on this issue. I'm updating this from 'Delivered' to 'Being Reviewed' as I can see from a number of comments in the issue that it is still not possible to complete the 'Log call' action without also completing a Task. The initial update that was delivered only allows for Calls to be completed separately from Task completion if you are making the Call from the HubSpot CRM... IE: when using the 'Call' function rather than the 'Log a call' function.

We are reveiwing this issues in 2 ones.

1. We are reviewing the concept of "Connecting" Tasks to Activities such as Calls and Emails at a larger scale, and decisions made here could potentially resolve this issue as a result.

2. We are reviewing this issue directly in the event that we cannot solve the larger issues related to the interplay between Tasks + Activities, in which case we would provide a similar solution to what you see for the exsiting solution when making a Call directly from HubSpot.

I'll continue to review comments as they come in. One question I am curious about at the moment - when creating these Tasks intiially, are you also having issues with the fact that these Tasks always default to the 'Call' functionality (to call directly from the CRM)? Would a better solution include an additional option to create a 'Log call' task as opposed to a 'Call' task?

Hi HubSpot community - it is now possible to log calls or send emails without completing tasks while running a task queue!

Still an issue, very frustrating and a very odd piece of UX design!

Upvote on a lot of the comments above.

We need to be able to choose to log comments or send emails without completing a task in a task queue by default, instead of having to use the drop down every time.

Being able to make a note in a deal without completing a task would make Hubspot work SO much better for us. I have to "x" out the task on the top bar, refresh the page to be able to save a note without completing a task. Very frustrating to the workflow. Could you just put 2 buttons so there would be one click instead of a drop down?

This is still an issue!  We cannot log a call without having to complete the task.  This feature was not designed with the user workflow in mind.   Hubspot, please fix this!  What a waste of time to have to click back to the task, and uncomplete it every single time.

Given the last update on this still current issue was over 2 years ago, are there any updates on this? As others have said, it's a pain to log a call has taken place with it autmatically logging taak as complete which is not what we want. Thank you.

@glencornell @sjudson @hubspot  Would you mind sharing an update on this issue for all of us, please?

I was surprised when I searched for a solution to this issue to find somany people in the same boat, and no reaction from HubSpot. I have used many CRM systems over the years and this is the only one that forces you to complete a task when all you want to do is make notes on the attemped contact and postpone the task.

HubSpot, please provide a fix so that a task does not have to be completed.

Thanks

@hubspot

Absoultely crazy that you can not add a note without it marking a task as complete..
Just have the same set up for sending an email where you can choose from the dropdown if you want to send the email and complete the task or just send the email.

Makes no sense.

I see that HubSpot has supposedly fixed this for logging calls without completing the task. Is this also available when logging other activities? Emails, postal mail, SMS, even just a regular note? We need to be able to log an activity without completing the task, no matter what kind of log we are adding.

A simple solution would be to have two button options (much like the Send Email Now vs the Schedule Email buttons that sit side by side when drafting an email inside a deal) -- Log and Complete Task vs just Log.

+1 to this on behalf of a customer who has shared valuable feedback, it'll make things so much more user-friendly if we were able to log activities (notes, emails, calls etc) without marking a task as complete when going through the task queue.

Unfortunately, we are also struggling massively with this “feature” of task processing. I think the task editing feature is basically a useful tool, but I see 2 problems in particular:

1. if I work from my task list, I am forced to use this feature or close the bar at the top for each new task if I don't want to use it. There is no option to deactivate this feature, neither as a user nor as an account. Also, as a user in the task list, I cannot actively decide to start editing with the feature or “simply” open the task in the data record, which many of us prefer.

2. if I am in task processing with the feature and receive an inbound call, I naturally open the corresponding data record of the caller directly. If I forget to close the task bar and send an email without switching the dropdown to “Send” or if I log a note, a call, etc., I close a task that has absolutely nothing to do with this data record. As a result, the actual task is lost in the actual data record and the customer may suffer as a result.

We have already given a lot of thought to this internally and would find the following points useful as solutions:

- In the task list, clicking on the title simply opens the task without the feature. You could use a button or something similar to start the task processing with the feature

- There should be a user or at least account setting to deactivate the feature in principle

- When the feature is open, a dropdown must also appear for other activities as for e-mails to save without closing the task

- If I leave the data set because I open a completely different one (perhaps recognizable by the associations), the task should not be closed by default, but the classic save / send buttons should be selected first. Alternatively, the edit feature could also be closed if I am no longer in a data record associated with the originally selected data record.

With the current status of the feature, our users would 100% prefer a deactivation, but unfortunately this is simply not possible at the moment.

I have this same problem, I tend to check my Tasks first, and when a customer calls me, I pull up their record, but if I'm not careful, I will complete the task for the wrong customer and I have to then go back in and pull up the correct customer record and un-complete it. Not a complete show-stopper, but it does rob me of a bit of the joy of using HubSpot...
