With the freshly released new feature of the Lead Object which I know is still in Beta, it would be great if we could add/edit properties similar to the other objects like contacts, companies, deals, etc.
For example, I need to create a Lead source property so the sales reps can choose from our own lead sources rather than the default HubSpot ones.
Hi @GBurch - customizing/setting the default lead page for all users in an account isn't available yet the way it is for other objects (because Leads live in the Sales workspace as opposed to the CRM index pages). However, there is a very similar feature request for the ability to set default views account-wide for Leads here if you would like to keep track of that request! Any updates on that will be shared directly on that post. 🙂
Hi folks! I'm excited y'all are excited about custom properties on leads. We'll continue to add functionality as we bring leads up to par with the other CRM objects.
@SPerformance I'm interested in your feedback. Can you tell me more about the lead source issue? Is it still persisting with custom properties?
This is definitely necessary. We need to classify our leads by Department and there's no Lead property to use currently to distinguish this for our Sales Team. We'd have to edit each Lead Name manually which just seems like unnecessary and tedius work. PLEASE ADD THIS ASAP!
We need this as well. Our SDR team currently works from the contact view where they can see which funnel the lead came through. Not being able to see the marketing lead source is a brick wall for us.
We all really need custom properties for this tool to be fully leveraged.
I am not sure if this is a recent update or just a workaround I found, but IT WORKS.
If you try to create a property from the settings as usual, when selecting Lead Object, the orange button appears disabled, but if you go create a Contact Property, and from the "Object Type" dropdown you actually can select "Lead", you can create properties for the Lead Object. I just tried and these properties work in the Leads View, at the Prospecting workspace, you can use them in workflows and any other place where you usually use properties.
I did this using a demo account (all Enterprise), so I am unsure if this requires any special license, but you can try it in your portals.
@EnzoCesti You must've found a loophole! It's safe to assume that custom lead properties are rolling out soon. I noticed thurs/fri of last week that you could now see properties within the lead object UI in settings.
As you stated, the "create a property" button is greyed out when viewing the lead object's properties. As of this moment, our primary HubSpot account doesnt show "lead" in the create a proeprty dropdown. I'm really hoping it magically appears soon, i'll be aggresively refreshing until then! 🙂
Fingers crossed saved lead views and lead creation form customizations are coming too.
Just realized we can't do this today. Just starting a project to revamp a company's messed-up sales processes and would love to use the prospecting tool in all its glory, but we would need lead properties to fully execute. 😞 (and the ability to report on them)
This feature is unable to be used effectively in it's current state. Tasks should be able to be filtered by contact and deal properties so people can complete them in batches.
Hi All, CONFIRMED - you can now edit 'most' lead properties. - the tool is evolving at an alarmingly quick rate... recommend not making promises to anyone what is or is not possible but returning to the tools regularly to test and check...
Is there any indication when more functionality will be added to Lead Objects? If we would have known it was half-built we wouldn't have switched over to it... Great idea in concept but has caused us all sorts of headaches since we can't even update lead sources that come through inaccurately... Would love to know the timeline for when some of these additions will be made.

@WNHughes Yes, still an issue. Basically, when reporting on "Lead Source" it seems to be pulling a lot of the same info as the contact property's original source. We need Lead Source to track when the "Lead Object" was created, not when the contact was created. For example, if a contact enters our CRM from Organic Social, it'd make sense that the original source on the contact was Organic Social. But then let's say we send them an email inviting them to a webinar. If they sign up let's say we label them a lead, therefore a lead object would be created. We'd need the "Lead Source" to be email marketing, since it was email marketing that prompted the Lead Object to be created.
We would have a workaround if we were able to manually (or automatically via a workflow) be able to change "Lead Source" like we can for the Contact Properties (Orgiginal and Latest Source), however there is no where I've found where I can change the Lead Source.
Additionally, having "Source Drill Down -1 and -2" would be very helpful for Leads as well so that we can further understand where they came from. Right now, we're manually reporting on all of our Lead Objects that come through Hubspot which is super time consuming.
Now that custom properites on Leads are here, I really need the ability to see/update these custom properties on the Lead itself. I can do it in line on the view if I add the property to my Leads view, but this isn't a great user experience, especially if I have more than one custom property to update.
My specific use case here is that I want the sales reps to be able to tag leads with which product/product category the customer is interested in so we can report on that on the Leads level, not just on the Contact level. (Contacts can have multiple leads now, which is awesome. We want to use that functionality to answer questions like which products bring in the most new leads and which bring in the most returning leads? In which products are people who are already customers interested?)
Product interests might need to be updated over the course of a few interactions with the contact, not just when the Lead is created. Most of the leads are automatically generated for the sales reps as well, so they don't have the opportunity to update this property when they are creating the lead. It would be a much better expereince if I could put this property in the right hand side here with the Lead information. As an Admin, I could make sure it's visible and not need to rely on my users configuring their views to include it. Getting to it in the list view seems like a workaround and I'm sure there will be other properties that the sales reps want to put in that space to manage their leads. The sales reps would have to scroll over to the end of their views to update properties that they need to update. I suspect that means that they won't update this property often and we won't get good data partly because of the UI.
