With the freshly released new feature of the Lead Object which I know is still in Beta, it would be great if we could add/edit properties similar to the other objects like contacts, companies, deals, etc.
For example, I need to create a Lead source property so the sales reps can choose from our own lead sources rather than the default HubSpot ones.
Hi folks! I'm excited y'all are excited about custom properties on leads. We'll continue to add functionality as we bring leads up to par with the other CRM objects.
@SPerformance I'm interested in your feedback. Can you tell me more about the lead source issue? Is it still persisting with custom properties?
Very important to be able to add in a field to track type of lead (e.g. I work with a lot of event compnaies and the same contact could be a lead for two specific events at the same time) so it would be very useful to be able to add in a text field i populate via workflow to say what product the lead came in through.
If I create a lead generation form on my website and I include a field allowing the person completing the form to tell me what they need from me, there is no way to view that information from within the LEAD object. That's kinda critical information to my sales rep who needs to decide how to prioritize / qualify the lead. If they have to navigate to a record in a different object to obtain that information, it defeats the purpose of working within the LEAD object.
I think you need to allow for some customization of the view in the CONTACT preview pane. Perhaps even insert another tab/grouping where you can place relevant information regarding the how/when the lead was generated. I realize that stuff is typically found under the "About" tab but personally, I'd like to group it under it's own new tab called "Lead Details". I just think there's less clutter that way
I am also toying with Leads and may have a found somewhat of makeshift/temporary solution for some of your troubles, although it is not ideal at all. I agree that leads is a GREAT object in concept, but it is still lacking some very key features as you all have pointed out.
We at Radiant are also looking at source, and what we are using is the 'Lead Disqualification Note' property, as we can copy properties and text into that when creating a lead (see picture below). Thus you could use that to input information if you wanna backtrack/report on leads in someway.
Ways to help prioritize is to:
Define your prioritization metrics, help route that via. a workflow and branches, then create a lead with a specific 'Lead Disqualification note'
Use that in a 'naming convention' and use that as the first part of the 'Lead Disqualification Note', which you can sort on, eg: 1 = From Event, 2 = Marketing, etc.
Or if you limit yourself to 3 statuses, then you can use the lead label, warm, cold thing for prioritization based on your priotization metrics and use that, basically requires users to know what each label means if you dont wanna just prioritize for them.
Or you can combine both.
Again this is very much a temporary solution. Hope it helps!
I also tried:
Data operations / formatting: Not allowed to set anything other than label, stage and disqualifcation note, maybe via Custom Coding but again Lead API is not out there yet.
I did not try:
API / Custom Code
Checking Lead Source Drill downs and workaround of using that
Until you can build out Custom properties, have more robust reporting options, better filters, etc. Leads as an Object is way more trouble than its worth.
Fully agreed! For example we can name a lead... but it'd be very useful to have a property where you can apply a description to the lead stating what the product/service the lead is interested in. A current workaround is creating a note, but its not as clean and not viewable on the leads table.
Also, it just appeared to me that you can FINALLY name a lead. But, you can't RENAME a lead or edit the name, seems very silly.
I'm curious how people are using Leads with such limited functionality...like, am I missing something? It's completely unusable for it's intended purpose, right?? lol
Much needed! - Need to be able to edit/add new lead properties - Add owner when creating a lead with workflows (so when someone fills out a form, a lead is created and sent to a spesiffic sales rep)
Agreed - need scoring and also attribution to another custom object OR atleast a custom field/property where we can add a picklist to allocate the lead to a specific opportunity
100% agreed on all comments ... to use lead feature efficiently we absolutely need to sort them at least with properties coming from companies or contacts ... in my case sales people are working with post codes or commercial area and they can't see it in lead view !!!
