Importing multiple email addresses for single contact

I am importing a CSV file with contacts that have multiple email addresses. Hubspot supports multiple email addresses in the "Email" field, which is wonderful, but the data cannot be imported this way.  To import, I had to create multiple email properties (primary email, alternate email, etc). I can manually add the multiple emails in the single "Email" property but I have a large number of contacts. Any automated way to do this?

Would recommend an enhancement to offer the ability to either import contacts in a way to add multiple email addresses  to the "Email" property. Or, offer a way, after the import, to copy the data from another property (e.g. "Alternate Email") to the "Email" property without overriding the current email (i.e. adding a second or third email).

Agree. We are running into the same issue switching over from mailchimp. We have over 65k contacts and a number of them have multiple emails. Adding these emails as additinal emails on a contact is not something that is feasible to do manually for each record.

It unbelievable that we're in 2023 and there hasn't been any update yet.

So important.... and still impossible... How can we explain this to customer who have more than 100K contact with multiple emails per contacts....

Has anyone just imported them as duplicate contacts then merged them with the Duplicate Contacts tool?

Adding my vote for the ability to import multiple email addresses for a single Contact.  In this day and age, people have multiple personal and business emails, it's preferable to keep track of them all.

Couple of observations:

1. When you export "All properties on records" for Contacts, you do see the additional email addresses for each record in a column (field) called "Additional email addresses".  Each additional email is separated by a comma. It's a shame you can't use that same field for importing.  I tried, but HubSpot doesn't recognize that field for importing.

2. Interesting, when I import contact information for an existing contact – that ALREADY had a few email addresses associated with them – and import a new email address, the new email address will overwrite ONLY the previous existing "Primary" email, but will keep the Secondary emails.  It's still a net loss of 1 previously existing email, but it's a partial victory.

3. One acceptable scenario (for me) is if I could import Contact records using the Record ID (to ensure that the records are properly being updated without duplication) and when HubSpot finds that the email being imported is 'new' or different than any of the existing ones for that Contact, it adds that new email address as the "primary" email and any previous existing emails are moved over to "Additional email" status.

Yes, this would be a great idea. As a workaround, you can just create a bunch a dupes and then use a tool like dedupely to find them. But those tools are not perfect, and could lower your sender score if, e.g., assuming you email all the emial addresses for a contact and all the bad ones bounce.

This feature request would be right in line with HS implied mission of improving deliverability and sender reputations!

Agree -- this would be extremely useful for many reasons. One use case:  LinkedIn "Matched audiences" are a super powerful way to build audience segments and control ad spend more effectively but limiting a list to JUST the business email is going to give you significantly less matches. This is because a large number of contacts use their personal emails on LI, NOT their business emails so LI can't identify them by their business emails. If I was able to upload multiple emails to a single contact (e.g., their personal email), then it would help me build better and more effective advertising audiences on that platform (and show the value of HubSpot in my paid advertising operations efforts).

This is currently a very tedious and time consuming process for us as well

Three years later, and we're still begging for this feature. Would be such a time-saving

We 1000000% need this feature. How can we be so advanced in the import process yet not have this? Emails are critical for the proper identification of contacts/leads in hubspot, and we're missing large quantities of data without this!

We really need this feature too - please HubSpot!!

How this is something that is not natively built into the app is kind of wild to me.

Yes, there are workarounds, but they're a major pain point for users, this thread is a great example of that.

Additionally, who uses ONE email in this day and age? To build your system natively around the idea that one person uses one email is a bit obtuse. It leaves me wondering if HS would rather just make more money from higher marketing contact totals off of users who don't clean their data properly or do the proper workarounds for this.

Is there any update on this capabilty? Its a must feature of a CRM.

YES! Be great to get an update on whether this is part of the new roadmap from HubSpot now that they've acquired Clearbit. If they're anything like other prospecting databases they will offer multiple email addresses for contacts. Right now there's now way to document that in the record.

FYI, there's an API to add secondary email address to contacts:

https://legacydocs.hubspot.com/docs/methods/contacts/add-a-secondary-email-address

If someone is familiar with APIs, I would say it's worth to give it a try 😁

Hi everyone -- Alex from the import/export team here.

We just launched support for importing multiple email addresses (or company domains for the company object) within the import flow.

In your spreadsheet, you'd add an additional column for "Additional emails." Here, you can add many email addresses, separated by a semi-colon. On the mapping step of your import, simply map this column to a new property we've surfaced called "Additional email addresses" and you're done!

If you're importing companies, the same process can be followed for importing multiple domains. The property you'll want to map to is called "Additional domains."

Thanks for the news @agirard!

Just a few days ago we noticed this while running an import and we tried it out.

Was waiting for an official confirmation, but it does seem to work as intended!

This one was long in the making but very welcomed finally nonetheless.

Thanks to everyone supporting this request and HubSpot Dev team for delivering!
