Important Updates to HubSpot's Product Library

Hi, community.  Today I want to share with you some important updates we're making to HubSpot's Product Library in the coming weeks.

Product Library will be moving to an index page.  If you have been working with contacts, companies, and deals, this should feel very familiar to you.

We're making this change to address a large amount of feedback that we've received from you, our community members, on how we should think about imporving the product library.  It includes the following feature updates:

  1. Advanced filters - search for products by both default and custom properties, including and/or logic.
  2. Create date filtering - search for products created in the last X period of time.
  3. Enhanced search - search for products by name, sku, or description.Sortable columns - sort data by columns from A>Z or Z>A.
  4. Customizable columns - add/remove/re-order the columns displayed for your products in the product library.
  5. Change in location in the navigation - the new product library will live under Sales > Products, eliminating clicks needed to access the product library.

These features are now in open beta. You can find a video of all these updates and a demo of how they work here.

Another big change I want to call out today is that we have removed folders from the new Product Library.  We understand that this is a big change for our users, and we did not make this decision lightly.

If your account previously had folders within it, we have migrated them over to the new system via custom filter and search, but new portals created no longer have the functionality to create them.

I have covered the folder migration and changes in a separate video that you can view here.

We do undestand that the library is not the only place where folders are useful, many of you are using them to help guide and direct your sales reps through the side panel additions in quotes/deals/and other channels.

While we have an alpha version of this new side panel experience out to new portals and a small set of pre-existing portals, it is very much a work in progress and our team is actively looking for customers who are willing to provide feedback and input that will shape this experience for years to come.

If you would like to participate in a feedback session or followup, please email alchan@hubspot.com.

If you have any additional questions, concerns, or ideas that aren't covered here, please feel free to comment or drop me a line anytime at vgumaer@hubspot.com.

Thank you!

Hi Community,

I've posted an update for the next phase of product side panel selection here, please check it out and leave any additional comments and concerns there.  Thank you everyone here for your feedback on this, and for everyone that's reached out, tested, and talked to us about it.  As always, we're going to continue to iterate and plan based on that feedback, but to ensure everyone is most up to date on our changes I'm consolidating posts.

@MartinLeibi and @THemmes we are currently exploring options for the add line item box and doing some user testing on our options there.  Please feel free to reach out to alchan@hubspot.com with this feedback and let him know if you'd like to participate.  He's recruiting users now, and I'll be doing some more updates once we have more clarity on the side panel's future design.

We are in the middle of rolling out a new sales workflow that depends on folders.  We created a sandbox to test out the changes, and we can find no viable workaround at this time.  We are in a position where we can't create folders, so searching current folders does not help. The idea of filters and save searches is great; however, there is no way to do this in quotes.  You can create a filter search but as soon as you leave the page and come back, your filters are gone, and there is no way to save them.  We are now stuck and had a we are supposed to be QA/QC the process this week and have to cancel it.  HELP. This has created a massive issue for us.

I can help you with this. Would you be able to send me an email
vgumaer@hubspot.com directly with your account ID and I will follow up with
the instructions and a fix?

No problem in the object view under "Products". But when an item is added in a deal, only the columns "Name" and "Price" are displayed in the "Add item" window. With the folders we could create a better overview to find related or dependent items more easily. Are there plans to show more columns in "Add item"?

I agree with Martin ans MBreman, I like the new features, it is definitely an improvement for managing the library.
In the add line item box that is displayed at deals and quotes (line-items), we would also like more options for visible colums.
We have a lot of products with the same name, but an different SKU. Right now the workaround is to add all products with the same name and correct after.

@VictoriaGumaer @Alvin-Chan I came across this post while searching for ways to change the order of products in folders. We are currently very late stage in developing a new process that would move our entire proposal process into hubspot quotes, and this process relies heavily on the use of folders. I understand from a recent support chat that we won't currently lose what we have created but may lose the ability to create more folders in the future. This would be severely detrimental to us. Additionally, the inability to change the order of products is incredibly frustrating. As it stands, I now must delete and re-upload all of our products in order to place them in the sequential order needed for our quotes. We are in the process of making big changes that are months and in some cases years in the planning and our already heavy use of Hubspot stands to increase with the implementation of these changes. Now I'm panicking. Help!

@KGarland I can only agree with you. The current development of the product library is not progress, rather the opposite. I also don't understand why the order of articles cannot be adjusted. At least an alphabetical order would be helpful.

How do this work with quoting? When we add line items to a deal, we see a list of folders. Will we see a long list of products in future?
We use folders to "hide" old SKUs we no longer support, but keep in Hubspot for historical purposes. What's the best way for us to "hide" those SKUs now? Should we rename the products "DO NOT USE - [product name]", for example.

This looks great!

- Is there any plan in making the product as an object in HubSpot? It would enhance a lot of functionalities and reporting possibilities.

- Will we be able at some point to search the products using the SKU when adding to a Deal or a Quote?
- Any progress in the implementation to hide inactive products when adding to a Deal or a Quote?

Thank you!
