Identify Duplicates on Custom Object

For the Custom Obj I have created i cannot identify the duplicates created and merge them, as we can do with the Contacts/Companis. An export is needed and then use excel to find duplicates, its not acceptable. Optimization is needed

You can actually merge them by clicking on action on a selected item and then select the other object bu yes otherwise you can't do more !

Is there a step-by-step process for this? Can anyone provide a guide? It would be really helpful to create custom reports on duplicates.

We rely on custom objects more so than companies so this is needed for us. I understand that we can merge duplicates but it's a tedious job having to search through the total count. A filter would be helpful.
