Generate the URL for a specific contact to access the subscription preferences page
Currently there's no way to generate a direct link for a contact to access their subscription preferences page. The only way we can direct a contact to resubscribe is 1) ask them to find an old email we sent them before they unsubscribed, 2) tell them to click on the "Manage Preferences" link at the bottom, and 3) subscribe to the email types that are relevant.
It'd be much easier if we could generate an individual link to a specific subscription preferences page. Then we could just email them the new link (through a personal email, since they won't get any emails we send them through HubSpot) and have them resubscribe. This eliminates the potential roadblock if the contact has already deleted all emails they've previously received from us.
Hi @THammer! I'm interested to know more about the workaround you were able to execute (prior to the security update); I am in a similar situation where I'm looking for a way to have the subscriptions preference page easily accessible by contacts, so that they don't have to access the link via an old marketing email.
Since the security update was rolled out, have you had any luck in revising your workaround?
Agreed - this would be helpful to send when a user reaches out to say they aren't receiving communications from us or wants to update their information.
This is definitely needed as to conform to GDPR, the email preferences page has to be accessible - this means it has to be easy to search for on our webpage or search engine, and not just by finding in via an email footer's Email Preference link.
*If there has been an udpate and a link can be shared, then please excuse this comment and sorry for adding it.
This is really crucial - allowing people to opt back into communications is becoming unnatural, creating additional friction instead of making the process easy.
We have several other systems that email customers. We would like all of them to be able to direct customers to the same subscription preferences page that the hubspot mailings do. We also would like to have a link from their profile page on our website to the hubspot preferences.
Requested since 2017 and still not here.. please add this feature! Feels like hubspot is saveguarding their features, making us send mails always from within hubspot etc., but not seeing that not providing this general subscription URL also keeps us from moving new outside contacts automatically to within hubspot and subs..
My team and I build HubSpot apps. We've been following this thread in detail – and researching a new solution that could meet the needs everyone has mentioned.
We're considering building an app that would give you –
Instant Self-Service Access – Allow contacts to instantly update subscriptions on their own.
1-Click Agent Access – Provide agents quick access to contact's unique URLs.
API Integration – Enable external tools and services to generate URLs on-demand.
Simple Management – One-time, simple setup to automate management across all contacts.
GDPR Compliance – Easily adhere to privacy laws with contact manageable settings.
Real-Time Automation – Trigger intelligent engagement based on subscription changes.
User-Friendly UX – Provide a modern and easy subscription management experience.
Brand Customization – Customize UI to match your brand seamlessly.
This would let you say goodbye to time-consuming, makeshift processes and provide a streamlined, modern way to handle subscription management that's perfectly integrated with your HubSpot data.
A solution like this would likely cost $50-$75/mo, depending on your number of contacts.
Right now, we're trying to determine now if there's enough interest to pursue building this as an add-on tool — or if folks would prefer to wait for HubSpot to develop this functionality natively (if they ever choose to).
See more specifics on this tool here, and let us know what you think –
I'm interested in what your team is considering. However I'd be curious to know how you'd handle resubscriptions for users that have opted out of a Subscription Type, considering HubSpot doesn't allow for that via workflow or API endpoints. This is our team's main pain point and why we would prefer to wait until HubSpot provides a solution to that.
The Resubscription endpoint doesn't offer any publicly available scopes, as you can see below:
But some of our clients that have customer portals would highly benefit from this as they would like to allow their customers to manage their preferences right from it, so any potential solutions out there are definitely worth looking for us.
Based on our initial research it looked like HubSpot had introduced new APIs that would make this possible.
Currently, we've done the legwork to design a likely solution based on our research, to help paint a picture to see if we're on the right track or not. Next, we had planned to put together a functional proof-of-concept for that design if there was enough interest.
I had the team waiting on this step until we saw what demand looks like – but your question (and similar questions from others) has me more curious to push ahead on that sooner. We'll dig into things a bit more to confirm our current understanding and I can get back with what we find out specifically on resub's.
I pretty much left this for later, since it was so cumbersome to do. Now I believe the API does allow you to resubscribe so it's much easier to create your own manage preferences/subscriptions page.
We've dug into a POC for this a bit further - and initial feedback is testing/working with HubSpot email subs is what I think the locals call 'unpleasant'… Our primary pain so far has come less from working with the APIs and more so just getting HubSpot to create workable unsubscribe links to test workflows.
It looks like there's some mixed messaging and functionality on the new 'resubscribe' API endpoint, which makes me wonder if some new work is in flight here from HubSpot that they haven't shared yet?
The biggest blocker for us now, as a small development shop, is that there doesn't seem to be enough desire for this as a third-party add-on to warrant trying to build it – at least based on direct feedback so far.
We'll keep watching this thread and API developments - if the tides shift in way that we can help, we'd still love to.
Please plan to make the preferences page available via a general link. I thought I would be able to link to it from our privacy page and was quite surprised to learn I could not.
I think it is too much to ask a prospect or contact to contact us directly to be removed from a list or any other form communication.
Can anyone from HubSpot respond to this? There seems to be a good amount of people who are in need of it and see value in this. For as much as all of us pay for HubSpot, please give us the common-courtesy of a response of any kind. A simple "this ain't gonna happen" will work, but after seven years, it's ust unacceptable to not provide any guidance.
It's been two years since my last message on this thread- hubspot clearly doesn't want this feature. There has to be a way to "hack" this into a URL and make it work. Salesforce marketing cloud has this capability from what I can tell, why not hubspot? pfft.
I’m Markie, a Product Manager working within HubSpot’s Messaging Experience group. Thank you all for continuing to submit, upvote, and comment on this Idea. We are not currently developing this feature, but we will reassess and revisit this topic in 3-6 months. We will update this post when there is additional news to share. Thank you!
