Create a 'Today's Date' field in Hubspot

Currently, you have no date property that tells you today's date. This is genuinely a critical function if you are going to compete with other CRMs. How can a sales team set and keep SLAs if they can only look at the time spent in stage retroactively? Please fix it or bring in a "Today's Date" field so people can work around it using a calculated property and some basic automation i.e.

  • Enters deal stage > set date picker to "date of entry"
  • Calc field = time between "Date of entry" & "Today's Date"
  • Report = all deals with "Calc field" >7
  • Automation = id "calc field">7 notify salesperson and manager.

This is a huge hole in the system and is going to cost your partner's deals. A simple addition like this would unlock a lot of potential within the system.

HubSpot Updates

Hi @Mike_ , I'm wondering if you can set up the logic you describe using time until/time since properties. For example, I created a workflow updating a ‘Status’ property based on the value of a ‘time until subscription end date’ property (both are custom object properties). This workflow automatically updated the Status property when ‘time until subscription end date’ is less than 0 days (as in, the end date is in the past). Here’s a quick screenshot of my workflow setup.

@kaious  - Thanks for that example! I understand the request. That said, I'm wondering if setting up two properties to do this calculation natively would be an improvement over using the workflow, for your use case. For example:

  1. ‘Time since open’ property = ‘time until’ property calculating time between Start Date and Today’s Date (using net new functionality that was released)
  2. ‘Time between Start + Close’ property = ‘time between’ property calculating time between Start Date and Close Date

Hi @kaious , you're correct that these properties can't be used in other calculated properties, and we don't currently plan on removing this limitation. If you'd be willing to share some examples of how you'd like to use a time since/time until property in a calculated property, that would be helpful!

In Beta

👋Hi all, I'm Rachel from the HubSpot Product team. As part of the 'create time since/time until properties' beta, you can now build calculated properties to represent the time between 'today' and another date/datetime represented by a property. These properties can be used in filters (lists, CRM index page views), automations (as a filter), and to build reports.

Here is a demo and updated KB article going into more detail about the feature. You can opt into the beta here.

Looking forward to your feedback!

I would like this too. I'm currently using the daily workflow workaround that others have suggested.

Perfect would be if we can have a constant running timer of 'now' to compare against, rather than just the date of the day, also the time of the now.

Since we now have the advanced calculation feature, why not just add the function TODAY() so we don't have to create Today's date workflows? @OliviaB

Hey @Adam-SixandFlow,

I'm Dave from the hapily support team! We just launched an app called Tick Tock Today that creates a today's date property for your objects. It's available on the HubSpot Marketplace.

I've formulated some different ways to use the property. Including a way to track the time between today's date and another date! I documented how to do so in this blog post here.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. I'd be happy to hop on a call with you!

Best,

Cool app @DStaat , thanks for sharing! I can def see how that will help a lot of users to quickly configure today's date for an object. On the other hand, I am struggling to recommend that users pay $9/object for additional objects when it's something that HubSpot should offer natively.

This seems like a quick win that HubSpot could offer, instead we're having to add yet another integration to achieve basic functionality.

Agree completely, @Jnix284. Although, most use cases could handle a workflow that updates additional associated objects with today's date and still stay within the free version.

That's true @Amevian , although if someone knows how to configure workflows that repeatedly check the value from one object and copy to the other object, it would be a lot easier to just create the workflow in the first place that changes the date daily. 6 of one, half dozen of the other - still prefer the native feature 🙊

@Jnix284, yep. Although, that is another rabbit hole in itself where workflows don't operate as you'd expect them to. You have to be very careful creating the loop in a way that the workflow doesn't catch you!

Just chiming in here to reiterate the basic need that a "Today's Date" value represents. I have hundreds of thousands of records going through a workflow to do this daily, and it's made looking at the workflow activity log on any record pointless. Please HubSpot, this should have been available pre-launch, but tomorrow would be almost as good.

Agreed. Definitely needed!

Great idea, why isn't this standard?

Even if it's not a field - just to be able to use Todays Date in Workflows/Custom Calculations is definitely a needed feature!

Please HUbSpo can you sort this? 3 years on and still we are having to build our own internal flows and functions for what is essentailly a BASIC missing date field, no other CRM I have worked with has had this missing. I wonder why this isn't already done...?

Struggling to understand why this hasn't been implemented, being such a seemingly basic improvement with so many upvotes?

It's weird that this feature isn't available. 😕  HS, what's the holdup?

Its beyond rediculous that this hasn't been implemented.

I need to calculate the days since ceratin events happened that I'm tracking in properties. This is critical for keeping our reports in HubSpot and using dashboards.

Does anyone have any updates on this at all??
