Cloning a Deal

Thank you for the continued discussion on this thread. I’d like to share an update on the enhancements we’ve made to address the most pressing needs.

Enhancements

• Conditional properties are now supported: you can change the deal pipeline or stage during cloning, letting you split deals or tickets at clone time.

• The cloned record now stores the source record’s name and record ID in Record source property 1 and Record source property 2. You can now set up a workflow to create an association between the source and cloned records, then copy any additional properties with the Edit record action.

Thank your for the contiuned discusssion on this thread. We are tracking each and every single feedback to help shape the future iterations of record cloning. So far, we have heard about a few key recurring themes. 

1. The need to "split deals" by allowing pipeline stage to be change at clone time (and the correct properties cloned depending on the stage)
2. The need for a workflow action to automate the clone action
3. The need to copy all propreties (and exclude some properties as an admin configuration)
4. The need to copy all associations & activities beyond what's been configured in the record creation
5. Auto associating source & cloned record. 
   
   

I'm happy to share that we have made the decision to prioritize #1 today so you can expect an upgrade within this release.

Everyone who added their Hub ID to the interest form should now have access to the private beta for "Basic Record Cloning." We are looking at opening the beta to everyone shortly! In the meantime, please share any feedback you have once you have given it a go!

Hi everyone - Thank you @lgancarz for reporting the issue with required Line Items. The fix should now be available to all who are enrolled in the beta. Please give it a go and let us know if you have any additional feedback! 

All who have added an entry in the beta interest form should have the "Basic Record Cloning" product update. Don't forget to enroll in the beta before checking it out!

Here to share an un-fun update. We explored Cloning Deals in the second half of 2023 but are not ready to execute yet. Projects like this seem easy on the surface, but both technical and customer experience implications really matter. We're committed to providing the best experience, and sometimes that means taking extra time to do so. I know this is still a pressing need, and plan to make strides this year. In the meantime, as folks on this thread have mentioned, either using a workflow or an app like Deal Duplicator are your, admittedly not perfect, best options.

Thank you for your continued feedack here. I wanted to provide an update on the status of this idea. Cloning a deal is absolutely on a list of things we’d like to do. However, the list is long and time and resources are limited, so building this functionality is ultimately a question of priorities, and this is a lower priority compared to some of the other things we’re working on right now. We're continuing to keep an eye on the use cases provided in this idea and are always re-evaluating our top priorities, I'll be sure to update this thread when this is a more near-term priority.

Yes, you should be able to do this and select which fields/options you want to copy at least at a high level like:

Select the options to clone:

- All fields

- Notes

-Activities

Then set the new close date to the latest deal's close date + 1 year, 2 years, etc. or whatever the frequency should be with respect to the current closed deal's close date.

I agree this is a very good idea and it would save users a lot of time.  In my experience with other CRMs, including those I've built myself, this feature was a 'given'.  The (temporary) duplicate email issue can easily be resolved by appending "clone_" to the original email address in the cloned entry form so (1) it is unique, and (2) its bogus so it won't work until the local-part of the email address is changed, while keeping the domain part of the email address intact.

I have 50+ contacts at the same company. It is a waste of my time to have to enter the same information each time. With ACT! and Salesforce, I was able to duplicate the company info and add the individual information.

Yes. This very basic functionality needs to be in HubSpot. I have deals that repeat with slight variations for the same customers and it would save a lot of time to be able to simply clone an existing deal to create a new one, and then modify the new one slightly as needed. Trello, my previous tool for tracking deals, makes this very easy. Anyone from HubSpot able to weigh in here?

We would use this really often. Currently, I need to create a new deal for each renewal, which often has the same properties. Would love to be able to clone a deal for the same client or to assign to a new client.

Yes Please! Cloning a deal is super critical to have as a feature for repetitive deals that flow across multiple months or periods with similar or near similar properties, products, etc.
