Change timestamp of a note in the deal or contact timeline
Great idea for HubSpot: make it possible to change the date that belongs to a note in the timeline. My sales colleagues don't always submit their notes on the day of a certain meeting/event, and by adding them later they don't appear at the right spot on the timeline of a deal or contact.
E.G.: Tom has a meeting on June 5th, but submits a note about it to the deal or contact card in HubSpot on June 9th. How can we make sure that the note is added to the timeline as if it was posted on June 5th?
As a new user trialling Hubspot this week - I agree. It's the very first problem I've encountered; I came to the forum having searched the KB and landed here after a Google search.
Not only is it an issue when migrating (manually adding notes) but it's also an ongoing operational requiremnt for me: I spend the day on the road speaking to people & taking paper notes in meetings. I then need to write them up retrospectively, sometimes writing the next day. It's a basic requirement for me to meaningfully capture the day on which a meeting or conversation actually took place.
This product improvement request has been raised in the Japanese Community as well. (link)
Comment from a user:
Sometimes user forgets to add a note in timely manner and those notes appear in wrong timeline. We'd want to be able to add date & time when creating a note so that the record's timeline will be reflecting the actual event's chronological order.
I agree the ability to edit the date of notes is a basic feature that needs to happen. In addition to the previously mentioned use cases (and the fact being able to backdate notes will make it easier for HubSpot to get more users of other CRM system to migrate to the HubSpot ecosystem), I attach scans of correspondence to notes on contact pages. Correspondence isn't a call or meeting, so attaching to a note is the logical place to put it. I tend to scan in batches and work on uploading everything when I don't have more pressing matters to worry about, so not being able to backdate notes is extremely annoying.
Yes! This would be a fantastic feature! My sales team does not log their notes or calls in real-time so being able to predate it so everything is accurately tracked is very much needed. This would help our team correctly communicate with the leads on their communication times.
Adding support for this idea! Would be especially helpful as I'm building out the CRM from scratch. We are a nonprofit that has lots of important historical donor notes and interactions that should be logged on the proper date. For example, would love to visually see that I first met with X donor in May 2019, received a donation in December 2019, they came to an event in August 2021, etc. Having a timeline would be much more helpful than just storing all of that in a single note that's dated all the way in 2022...
Seems like a no brainer for me to add this and I cannot imagine this would be technically hard to implement. But then again, I am not a programmer 😉
But it would be very valuable. My workaround is to create an empty note the day I have meeting, so I can edit it later when I have some information I want to add. A bit of a hassle, but it works for me.
Hubspot adding this functionality seems so simple. We can back date logged calls, but not notes? Frustrating. A work around we do is to log the notes as a call and make the notes clear that it wasn't actually a call. This will allow the "note" to appear in proper chronological order on a ticket. Not perfect, but it is what we are doing while we wait for this feature to (maybe) become a reality.
How is this not a feature?? I use Evernote primarily for notes so they are all in one place and transfer sales-related notes into HubSpot periodically. OF COURSE I need to change the date so that they are correctly attaching to all my other metadata in the CRM. That's literally the point of a CRM! Generally like the platform but customer service is abysmal and every once in a while I run into a dead end like this that just makes me wonder what's going on at HubSpot.
Agreed, this is so important! I can't always get to writing my notes immediately, and need to be able to insert notes into the sequence of meetings and events.
This is vitally important for new users bringing over historic data into this platform. Since it shows up as an activity, it creates confusion for when a contact was last interacted with. This is a feature that would be incredibly useful in my dashboard and would love to see implemented
