Case Studies Beta proposed enhancements

NFricano

Hi HubSpot Community,

I'm writing to share some thoughts and suggestions regarding the new Case Study Beta feature. While it's a fantastic step forward, there are a few areas where I believe it could be further improved to provide users with even more flexibility and customization options.

Current Limitations:

  • Limited Listing Page Customization: The current listing page customization options, particularly around tag filtering, feel somewhat restrictive. Being able to create more granular filters and sorting options would significantly enhance the user experience and meet more business needs.

  • Lack of Child Theme: The inability to create a child theme specifically for case studies limits our ability to fully align the design with the rest of our website.

Screenshot 2024-11-19 alle 10.50.14.png

  • No Multilingual Variations: As with HubSpot's blog feature, the ability to create multilingual variations of case studies would be invaluable for global businesses.

  • Header and Footer Customization: While there are some options for customizing the header and footer, they are quite limited. This often leads to design inconsistencies across the website, as the header and footer don't match the overall site design.

Proposed Enhancements:

  • Expand Listing Page Customization:
    • Allow for more granular tag filtering and sorting options. (e.g., filter by solution and case study type; sort by date, popularity or custom field)
    • Provide additional layout options for the listing page. (e.g., grid view or card view)
  • Introduce a Child Theme Option:
    • Enable users to create custom child themes for case studies, allowing for greater design flexibility and alignment with the overall website. (e.g. customize sections, fonts, and add new modules)
  • Support for Multilingual Variations:
    • Implement a similar system to the blog feature, allowing users to create different language versions of their case studies. (e.g. create a Italian version of a case study targeting the Italian market)
  • Enhance Header and Footer Customization:
    • Provide more flexibility in customizing the header and footer, including the ability to use custom CSS. (e.g. have more styling options for the menu items)

I believe that by addressing these limitations, HubSpot can create a truly powerful and customizable case study tool.

What are your thoughts on these suggestions? Are there any other features you'd like to see added to the Case Study Beta?

Hi all! My name is Amanda and I am the product manager for Case Studies. I really appreciate you taking the time to try out this beta and leave such thoughtful feedback! The following are on our radar for 2025:

- Improved template layout editing (make templates and listing page templates drag and drop editable)

- Improved header & footer customization

These are on the roadmap but will be tackled closer to end of 2025/early 2026:

- Open to developer customization and custom templates

- Support multilanguage

Please keep the feedback coming- it's so helpful for us as we prioritize and plan our our roadmap!

Agree with all above!

I also wondering why it does not use the theme for the website with footer and header etc.

Would really appreciate these features - we won't be able to use without!

i'd love to be able to change the ordering. right now the oldest/first case study shows first. I'd love to have the most recently published case study as the first on the list. otherwise the page looks stale with the newest published pushed to secondary pages needing pagination

I support all above. In addition there is no option to translate the label for Industry on the right side of the case study page.

We can't really make this work for our clients with the header and footer being different to the rest of the site. All the above ideas are great.

Agreed on the above.

  1. Especially for templates, we're using a different template than the default Elevate. So having a totally different UI just for case studies is visually arresting and incongrous with the rest of the site.
  2. "Industry" - our industry does not use the "industry" term; instead it uses the "vertical" term. It would be nice to be able to change the title from "industry" to free form text, allowing anyone to type anything.
  3. We will go live with this template as-is for now, but please do address the above.

Not being able to apply any theme to the Case Studies templates in particular feels very shortsighted and really means the feature is unusable until this is live - having to wait for a year since its release is very uncomfortable.

Support these ideas!

Please also allow the company website URL to open in a new tab.

Thanks

I'd love to be able to customise the template and filter the case studies based on Key Products!

This would be really useful for our team! Especially when managing clients with multiple contact emails.

@a_schumacher , is there any update on the Case Study template customization and the ability to use the Case Studies within an existing theme to use a site's standard header and footer?

I have clients wanting to use this functionality, but they're unable to due to the lack of these features. One client ended up just building custom pages and using HubDB to manage them, but another is still hoping to use the built-in CS functionality, depending on timing. We were holding off for the "end of 2025" features, but i don't see any of them in the udpates or roadmap. Now we're trying to figure out if they need to move forward with an alternative method, or if this will be available anytime soon. Thanks!

Agree with @jsquared, this functionality isn't really useful unless you can use custom themes. Would like to use the object, but for now got to stick with HubDB.
