Allow Asking for Email as first step in a chatflow

When creating a chatflow, I'm unable to add ask for email as the first question/step and save the response to the email property.  The system says: You can't ask for email in the first action because actions asking for email are skipped if the contact property already exists. The first action can't be skipped. 

 

It would be great to ask for email address first to follow up with the contact in case something happens with the chat (i.e the contact leaves the chat).
