Add ALT Text field at the file manager level

Add in an ALT text field in the file manager so we can add a global alt text to all images. Then allow the ability to override this text from the page level when adding in images (currently can add the alt text there).  This would make it easier for when using this in the  IMAGE HubDB column so we can pull in proper alt text for each image.

Hi everyone,

Glad to report that we have delivered this feature to the File Manager. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Update:

What is it?

Users can now add a short description of images and videos in the File details panel and Picker. When provided, this text will be used as the `alt` text for images, and the `title` attribute for videos when inserted in content from now on.

Why does it matter?

Descriptions of images and videos enhance accessibility via communicating their content to screen readers and visitors who chose not to display them. They also can improve SEO by helping search engines understand media content.

Currently, the file name is used as alt text. The new field allows users to specify something different and consider the file name to be for internal organization purposes. It will remain possible to customize alt text for individual usages of an image within rich text and the image module. Based on leading accessibility guidelines, descriptions are limited to 150 characters.

How does it work?

Available to all portals with access to Files, click on "details" for an image or video from your Files tool and add alt-text and description.

Thinking it would be amazing if there was the ability to update or add ALT Text right from the Files tool when uploading an image, this would save time when adding images to blogposts etc,

+1 !! This feature needs to be thought through, alt text tags are difficult to add and can be edited in multiple places. Why not add an option within the file manager to edit and add alt text tags?

+1 how is this not already a thing?? I've got a list of 700 images missing alt text that I need to update. Dreaming of an alt text field in hubspot files right now 😂

If you have images within your files that do not have updated ALT text, you can easily update this by following a few simple steps. First, open the file in which the image is located. Then, right-click on the image and select “Edit ALT Text” from the drop-down menu. A window will pop up allowing you to update the ALT text for the image. Simply type in the new text and click “OK” to save the changes.

ssitiktoksite: I do not have this feature/option, there is no pop up window. Is this a new Hubspot feature?

+1 hugely important for accessibility and key for when a page template is using an image that isn't editable in content editor

We should be able to set a default alt text for all images in the file manager and then be able to override them on a page-level when adding images (as we can now). This would make it easier for us to use this in the IMAGE HubDB column, as we would then be able to pull in appropriate alt text for each image.

Please add a way to save alt text at the file manager level where we save images in HubSpot, so the images will be automatically paired with alt text each time we use the image on HubSpot, unless we make edits to alt text on an individual page/post. We need this feature so we can realistically add alt text to all images across all landing pages, blog posts, social media posts, etc. This is an important accessibility issue, and adding alt text should be easier and less time-consuming for content generators so we can implement it across all of our HubSpot platforms.

We can currently only add alt text for one post a time, one image at time. For example, see the instructions to add alt text to images on social media posts: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/social/create-and-publish-social-posts#inserting-images
