Currently, discount codes only go up to 99%. When a client wants to be invoiced but we still need them to complete the registration process, a 100% discount code is needed. This seems like an easy thing to fix.
The work around for this is cause me to have to chase down event attendees instead of just allowing them to fully register.
Its not only hindering me being able to give tickets to approprate people (prospects or members) but the workflow is causing friction for paying customers so I am having to track them down and convince them to pay after the fact.
You know what's crazy? Hubspot clearly knows how to do this as they have 100% discount codes for Inbound! Its just insanity that in 2024 they have a payment system where you can't have a 100% discount code. We run events and would put hundreeds of thousands of dollars of ticket sales through a hubspot payments page if we could also implement 100% discount codes for some attendees. Just plain crazy they haven't allowed this yet. Let's be honest, it's not a technical issue that takes time to design a solution. It's hubspot just refusing to implement it.
I agree 100% @BNunan, @DBandele and others. There is no way this is not an easy fix that they're just deciding not to implement. I heard the CEO say in Inbound last year that they want to create delight for customers. This is one example of Hubspot's habit of creating FRUSTRATION for their customers by providing features (payment links? Yay!) that provide 90% solutions that require elaborate, time-consuming workarounds (99% discounts). I work for a nonprofit and we pay a ridiculous amount of money for solutions that cause us extra work. We cannot afford extra apps with bells and whistles that solve the problem the rest of the way. It is beyond me why they'd set up such a dynamic of chronic disappointment.
This is so ridiculous. One of many use cases where HubSpot has dozens of features we do not want/need but cannot provide basic functionality that literally every other ticket platform provides. Why?!
This is the kind of issue that makes me want to completely cancel and move off of hubspot. Hubspot charges a very premium price but doesn't have ease of use features like this that free or cheaper alternatives do.
I have many many many uses cases for a 100% off, it should be an easy fix, there's clear user support. This is a bug, not a feature.
Please redirect engineering resources from building new, advanced capabilities until the core foundation like this is fixed. Make hubspot simpler to use and break less often and you'll reduce churn from the platform.
@Titanium We have a link on our checkout page that takes people to a HubSpot Form, and allows them to complete that form with the same registration details, without the payment requirement. It's a really complicated solution for what should be a default option, and requires too much background work after they register that way.
One more thing that we've discovered while testing functions: even with a 99% discount, HubSpot does not allow any payments to be less than $0.50, which means that even if you give someone a 99% discount, they will be paying at least that amount. Just another frustrating thing to deal with regarding this topic. HubSpot, PLEASE give the users what they have now been asking for for over 2 years.
@SMWine I like your idea. I'm trying out a temp solution, too. In the payment link details box, I put a link to another HubSport form that will take membership info, including membership number. Thanks for the reply.
Yes, @Titanium, we also use forms as a workaround, though it's far from perfect. In addition to the 100% discount problem, there's also a shortcoming in the sense that you can set a payment link for someone to pay for multiple items, but not multiple people, which would be important for those running events. And forms also has this limitation only one name.
Our workaround is to have a form that accounts for all the shortcomings as best we can. It offers options for paying by check (so we send them an invoice), a custom bulk registration field where the person filling out the form can add additional names to the registration (then we have to manually enter the registration but can at least have a notification going to the person who tracks registration), and two options that could have been comp codes were Hubspot to grant us the 100% discount option (employee and DCF EDT options). Here's a screenshot of part of the form (the "for bulk registration only" is a dependent field):
Surprising seeing this feed that it still has not been addressed. Been a bunch of times I have needed this, hate having to make something custom for something so simple.
