Week of Rest Blog 5: Staycation Ideas

While some of you might be away from home during this week of rest, many of you won’t be. Fret not! Your ideal staycation is still possible. While Covid-19 has probably inspired more than a few creative ideas for vacationing in one’s own home, here are a few staycation ideas to get you started.

1. Replicate Your Ideal Vacation Spot as Best as Possible

Interested in travelling to a particular part of the world, but won’t be going just yet? Schedule a day where you attempt to emulate that place as closely as possible.

Plan your meals and music playlists to immerse yourself in that culture. Perhaps you can watch a movie from that location or a compelling documentary about that place. If your ideal location speaks a different language, this might be a good day to learn a few helpful phrases before the real trip.

2. Movie Night

In an era of streaming services, many of us might default to binging a show over watching movies (though those same streaming services offer plenty of movies in their own right). Breaking the routine of show-watching to view a movie might be a welcome change of pace.

If you’re already watching movies regularly, this might be the time to branch into uncharted waters and look for something off the beaten path or a genre you’re less familiar watching.

3. Board Game Night

Whether with family or a group of friends, board game nights can be exceptionally fun. Depending on the time constraints, make sure you know how long your board game will last. Also, it might go without saying, but know your audience! Not everyone enjoys playing niche board games with 50-page rulebooks, and some games can either be overly dark or too competitive for others. If you plan in advance and get a sense of what everyone likes, you’re certain to find a game you can enjoy together.

4. At-Home Spa Day

If you really need some me-time to relax and unwind, definitely consider scheduling a spa day for yourself. Make some hot tea, light some candles, and soak in a sitz bath. Face masks, manicures, and pedicures can also add a nice touch to this wonderful day of rejuvenation. Find some relaxing music or refer back to our meditation blog to really fall into a state of bliss.
