Hubspot not tracking email opens, any ideas as to what is causing it?

Hi there,

I recently started using Hubspot after a while and cannot for the life of me get any of the test emails I send to myself (on my two other email accounts) to track as open. They forever stay as 'sent'. I am 100% ticking the Track box so not sure why it is not tracked.

My recipient emails are gmails and shouldn't have any fancy privacy settings or anything like that. I attach what my test email status looks like.

Thanks so much for your help!

Hubspot not tracking email opens, any ideas as to what is causing it?

Firstly, it's great that you're making sure to tick the Track box, as that's a crucial step. Since you're still facing issues, here are a few things we can check:

  1. Email Client Behavior: Sometimes, email clients (like Gmail) might prevent images from loading automatically, which can affect the tracking pixel used by HubSpot to register opens. Although you mentioned the recipient emails don't have fancy privacy settings, it might be worth checking if the emails are set to automatically load images. If not, try enabling this feature and send another test email to see if it tracks as opened.

  2. Spam or Promotions Folder: Occasionally, test emails might end up in the Spam or Promotions folder, especially if sent to Gmail. Emails in these folders might not trigger the open tracking. Check these folders to ensure your test emails aren't landing there.

  3. Data Privacy Settings: If you have data privacy settings enabled in your HubSpot account, tracking might be affected based on the recipient's legal basis for data processing. However, since you're sending test emails to your accounts, this might be less likely the issue unless the emails are being sent to a contact in HubSpot with specific data privacy settings.

  4. HubSpot's Email Sending Infrastructure: Even if you turn off the Track email opens setting, HubSpot still anonymously tracks this data to support the network health of its email sending infrastructure. This shouldn't affect your ability to track opens, but it's good to keep in mind the broader context of how HubSpot manages email tracking.

If after checking these points you're still facing issues, it might be helpful to reach out to HubSpot's dedicated support team. They can provide more personalized assistance and possibly look into your account settings or any specific configurations that might be affecting tracking.
