Marketing email confirmation status

Hello all,

Hope someone can help me answer, how does the property "Marketing email confirmation status" logs info into itself? It not a property that can be manually edited. Already tried doing some research but what I find only explains in the detail the available values and not exactly how this values are logged/tracked.

Thanks in advance

Hi @galvanA81,

This property updates via to major ways:

  • If a contact receives a double opt-in email and they click the confirmation button (or an automated email which has the "Subscription confirmation link" in it), the value of 'Marketing email confirmation status' will be set to 'User clicked confirmation'.
  • If you have the system double opt-in enabled, you can manually confirm a contact (as shown here) in which case the value of 'Marketing email confirmation status' will be set to 'Customer marked confirmed' (regardless of whether they're a customer, a better name would be 'Contact marked confirmed').

All other values in the marketing email confirmation status property can, in my opinion, be ignored or are not actively used by HubSpot: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/marketing-email/what-is-the-marketing-email-confirmation-status-contac...

In any workflow or recipient list that is used for sending (marketing) emails, one should filter for "Marketing email confirmation status is any of User clicked confirmation or Customer marked confirmed".

It is not possible to manually set the value of the property to 'User clicked confirmation', the field cannot be updated via API / integration / import / workflow.

Best regards!

@galvanA81 no, it doesn't – the double opt-in settings don't have to be enabled for HubSpot to document a click in an email that contains a "Subscription confirmation link". Even with turned off double opt-in, a workflow could send such an email and a click would populate the "Marketing email confirmation status" accordingly. It's not the default process, but just to illustrate that the property is not inactive/dormant when the double opt-in is turned off.

However, only with enabled double opt-in will there be the option to manually mark contacts as confirmed.

@galvanA81 are you referring to the subscription checkbox? If so, no, this is not stored in a property. You can filter for it in contact lists, using the "Email subscriptions" filter group. On the contact record, you can view the opt status of a contact in the left sidebar: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/records/manage-your-subscription-preferences-and-types

Thanks for the reply. So basically this means that Double opt-in (Settings > Marketing > Emails > Subscriptions) must be enabled for the property to start tracking?

Thanks. This makes it more clear, is for email only. Do you know if there is a similar property but specifically for forms?

@galvanA81 can you explain what such a property for forms would do?

In some forms in out webpages we have a tickbox that is used as the first Opt in within the DOI process. I want to know if there is a Property that tracks whether the box was ticked or not, similar to the "Marketing email confirmation status", based on that enroll contacts into a workflow where they then get send the second confirmation email. I hope I was clear enough
