Double opt in and workflow campaign

Visitor

Hiya,

Please can someone provide details on whether this is correct in terms of double opt in and marketing workflows.

An example of a double-opt in running its course:

  1. User fills out form on landing page
  2. User added to workflow, not sent marketing email (dropped)
  3. User receives an opt in email confirmation
  4. User clicks on opt in email link
  5. Email link opens generic confirmation page
  6. Sometime later (roughly 12 hours from experience) user receives thank you email with download link
  7. User continues through workflow as set up

Is there a way to make step 6 immediate after a user clicks the opt in email?

With the large delay for the user to receive the thank you email with the content, it means there's a large break in the user journey.

Also, am i right in saying that if the user never clicks the opt in email, they sit at the top of the workflow and don't move?

Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi @chetwynd  At this time the Opt-in coinfirmation can not be part of the workflow actions. When the appropriate time comes, the workflow will check to see if the contact eleigible to recieve email. If so, the message is sent.

If the contact is not eleigible, the email is not sent and the contact will continue on to the next step. The workflow history will indicate why the email message was not sent.

With the current focus on privacy with the upcoming GDPR deadline, this may change, but for now, Opt-in status remains independent of the workflow tool.

Thank you,

Ed Justen

Hi @PracticalNet  If your are refering to the following:

Is there a way to make step 6 immediate after a user clicks the opt in email?

the answer is no. The opt-in email is not part of the workflow; you can not build in actions based on a response to the opt-in email.

Thank you,

Ed Justen

You can use the contact property condition "email confirmation status" equals "user clicked confirmed" in the workflow trigger (potentially coupled with other conditions). That way, workflow enrollment can be timed to occur at the exact moment the user clicks on the confirmation link in the DOI email (or at least with no more than a few seconds delay).
