Same here, but willing to understand from others' experiences. Is there any tactic that you used?

In the campaigns I've previously managed, I did not prioritize segmenting the audience. However, I now recognize the significance of this practice, and I believe it's the perfect time to begin implementing it.

I totally agree with the idea of segmentation and the way it can help develop different strategies. However, my core focus for learning email marketing is to grow my business through prospects scrapped from the internet using hunter.io. I believe the best bet for me for segmentation will be geography and the business industry.

Don't forget the risks of buying lists. It can really affect your deliverability negatively, which makes strategies like segmentation more difficult to employ!

Since we have never done email marketing, and I have not dabbled in email marketing - I do not believe I have done any segmenting. I am still determing what that data could look like, while manually creating the data in a spreadsheet for our leads and current customers.

This is a great question, and since I am new to this current role- I am currently undergoing where we are even at in the email segmentation space. I apologize as I currently do not have the answer(s) to this question; however, I look forward to reading others' replies and coming back to share what I will learn in the next couple weeks of where our company stands.

"To increase customers through email, you can use various classifications that can help you send your emails more effectively and strategically. Below are some common classifications for increasing customers through email:

  1. Classification Based on Purchase History: Creating categories based on customers' purchase history allows you to offer specific recommendations to existing customers based on their buying history.

  2. Classification Based on Email Interaction: Segmenting customers based on how they interact with your emails, such as opening emails, clicking on links, and responding to emails, allows you to tailor your content and messages based on these interactions.

  3. Classification Based on Content or Topic: Customers may have specific interests. By categorizing recipients based on their interests or the type of content they consume, you can provide content that is relevant to their interests.

  4. Classification Based on Seasons or Occasions: Using categories related to seasons, holidays, discounts, and special occasions can help you send messages tailored to each occasion and attract customers.

  5. Classification Based on Geographic Location: If your business has multiple physical locations, categorizing customers based on their geographical location allows you to provide information related to different locations."

These strategies can help businesses effectively use email marketing to engage and attract more customers.

In the campaigns I have run in the past, I have managed segments according to location, whether the recipient is B2B or B2C.

I have created a segment based on company size and location who may have a need for a fail over internet connection at a more affordable price. My segmented emails had a click through rate of 67.6% an we scheduled 9 appointments and had one purchase in less than 2 months.

I created segments for patrons who purchased tickets to an event. In addition to having the automatic 'thank you for your purchase' email that's sent when the person buys the ticket, the buyer would receive an email a week before the event with information on parking and tips on dining, plus any updates or notes they might find useful. Also, we used the email to promote any future events or campaigns that may relate to the type of musical event the had bought tickets to - opera, orchestra, family concert, etc.

The week before email is so smart 💡 Did you find that this led to higher engagement overall with your campaign?

  1. To identify potential employees for employment in the specific country, I categorized applicants based on their language proficiency of the target country, educational background, and specialization."

  2. This allowed me to effectively reach my Ideal Customer Profile (ICP). I adjusted communication strategies, messaging frequency, and tactics to expedite processes for segments with quicker requirements, while also preventing revenue loss by employing more assertive approaches for those with longer needs, such as language proficiency.
