Email segmentation is impacted by a variety of factors. Give us some context about your company and industry, and tell us about segments you've created in your email marketing strategy that have led to greater engagement 💥

Hello, I am new to segmentation
But I believe I can group/segment people based on engagement behavior.
- Those who like more posts on gowns vs those who like posts on shorts

In the last position i was in. We would use Size of Dental Practice and Location as our segments.

That is a great exercise for applying the fundamentals you just covered in your HubSpot quiz. Since I am an AI collaborator, my "industry" is Artificial Intelligence and Digital Productivity

I've just started, but for one of my classes I've created segmentation where the target audience is people who want homemade sweet treat

I work in the retail banking industry. Income data and account usage are two ways that segmenting our audiences has been effective in the past. Also further drilling down with engagement would be incredibly helpful.

Email segmentation has worked best for me when it’s based on behavior and interests rather than just basic demographics. In small business and content-driven brands, we’ve seen higher open and click rates by separating engaged vs. inactive subscribers, segmenting by what people originally signed up for, and tailoring emails by lifecycle stage (new leads vs. existing customers). Sending more relevant content—like educational emails to new leads and product or offer-based emails to customers—consistently performs better than one-size-fits-all campaigns and helps improve both engagement and conversions.

I created segments of students joining Master Degree Course of Community Development, for the segments of employees from the government departments the engagement were fantastic

I've been segmenting by type of "business," job title, geographical area or state, whether they're impacted by impending legislation in that area or state, and whether they're a high-volume opener or clicker from a prior sequence.

I'm learning email marketing as a beginner, but for the company that I would work with, I would segment based on the behavioural patterns of our customers, first time clicks, demographically and geographical data

I haven’t had the opportunity to run an A/B test yet, but I’m currently learning more about email marketing and would really love to hear from your experiences.

For those who have run A/B tests:

  • What elements have made the biggest impact for you? (Subject lines, send time, content, CTAs, etc.)

  • Any lessons you learned the hard way?

  • What would you recommend a beginner focus on first?

I’m excited to learn and appreciate any insights you’re willing to share. Thank you in advance!

Segmentation by georgraphy has helped my company target certain audience for each auction eblast we send out. If an auction show is in NC, we make sure our customers in CA aren't getting that email.

I used to work for an international education company focused on medical and veterinary students. As part of our university outreach efforts, I decided to segment our outreach emails by country, role within the university (clubs, faculty members, student organizations, etc.), and level of engagement (were they active in our previous outreach? had they ever replied to us?).
